> Utah (7-2) will close out its non-conference schedule this week, participating in the eighth annual Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic, which takes place at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.Â
> The Utes open the tournament against the San Francisco Dons (8-2) this Thursday, Dec. 22. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. HST/9 p.m. MST.
> The winner of Utah/USF will play the winner of Hawaii/Illinois State, while the non-advancing team faces the non-advancing team in the consolidation bracket.
> Utah is 0-3 all-time in the Diamond Head Classic. The Utes last played in the DHC back in 2010.
> The Utes are just 3-7 all-time when facing San Francisco, but the two teams have not faced each other since 1998. Utah won the last meeting, 85-68, back on March 12, 1998, which came in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. It was Utah's first game on the way to a run at being the national runner-up that season.
> The Utes are 23-12 all-time when playing contests in Honolulu, Hawaii. That record includes a 21-8 overall record against Hawaii and a 2-4 mark against neutral site opponents.Â

THE GAME
The Utah Runnin' Utes (7-2) close out non-conference play this week at the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic. The Utes will face San Francisco (8-2) in the opening round, this Thursday, Dec. 22. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. HST/9 p.m. MST.

Thursday's contest will be televised live on the ESPNU. Roxy Bernstein will call the action, while Dino Gaudio provides color commentary for the game.

LAST TIME OUT
Utah registered a 92-60 home win against Prairie View A&M this past Saturday, Dec. 17, in Salt Lake City.

- GAME NOTES:Â
• Utah closed out non-conference play at home with a 7-1 record inside the Huntsman Center. The Utes are 40-3 in non-conference play over the past five seasons.
• The Utes led 52-25 at halftime. Utah shot a season-best .714 (20-of-28) percent from the field, which included going 4-of-8 (.500) from the three-point arc and 8-of-13 (.615) from the free throw line.
• The Panthers were limited to just 10-of-30 (.333) shooting in the first half. PVAMU was just 1-of-11 (.091) from downtown over the first 20 minutes.
• Utah's 52-point first-half effort was its second-highest point total in any half this season. The Utes scored 53 against Coppin State (11/18).
• Junior
David Collette made his Utah debut tonight and scored the Utes' first two points of the game. He tallied six points in the first half and finished with 11 points and nine boards.
• Sophomore
Sedrick Barefield made his first appearance in a Utes uniform as well. He started fast pouring in 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting (3-of-5 3PT) in the first half then finished with a game-high 18 points and a new team season-high five three-pointers made.
• Utah outscored the Panthers 32-8 in the paint, 8-0 in second chance points and 11-2 in fast break points over the first 20 minutes of play.
• The Utes finished the contest shooting .593 (32-of-54) from the field, while limiting PVAMU to just a .318 (24-of-63) field goal percentage.
• Junior
Kyle Kuzma and Barefield tied for the team lead with 18 points. Kuzma led the Utes with 15 rebounds, notching his sixth double-double of the season.
• Barefield became the first Ute to connect on five three-pointers this season and first player since
Jordan Loveridge's five trey's against UCLA back on Feb. 18, 2015.
• Kuzma led the way with six assists. He has tallied three assists or more in six of Utah's nine games.

ABOUT SAN FRANCISCO
• The Dons are 8-2 overall on the season and coming off an 86-51 win over Abilene Christian on Monday.
• USF 4-1 over its past five games, with its only loss coming to Portland State (82-78) last week.
• The Dons are 2-0 in neutral site games this season and 3-1 overall in games away from home.
• USF ranks among the nation's top-10 in both three-point field goals per game (5th, 11.0) and three-point field goal percentage (9th, .418).
• The Dons' 110 three-pointers made so far this season ranks 32nd most among all NCAA teams.
• Ronnie Boyce leads the team with 17.7 points per game, while Nate Renfro leads all players with 6.5 rebounds per game.
• Chase Foster (13.3 ppg) and Charles Minlend (10.8 ppg) also post double-digit scoring efforts this season.
• Minlend's 10.8 ppg average all comes off the bench as he has yet to start a game this season.
• This is USF's first contest against a Pac-12 team since falling to Colorado back on Dec. 3, 2014. The Dons are 0-4 against Pac-12 teams since 2011-12.

SERIES HISTORY
USF leads the all-time series 3-7, but the Utes and Dons have not face each other since 1998. Thursday's contest will be just the second meeting between the two teams since 1976.

The Utes won the previous meeting, 85-68, back in 1998, but the Dons had won the previous three contests that date back to the 1950's.

DIAMOND HEAD CLASSIC HISTORY
This marks the second time Utah has played in the Diamond Head Classic since 2009. The Utes played in the Classic back in 2010, but went 0-3 on the Island.

Utah opened the tournament with a loss to Butler, then fell to Hawaii and San Diego.

BAREFIELD AND COLLETTE GET SEA LEGS UNDER THEM
Sophomore
Sedrick Barefield and junior
David Collette made their anticipated season debuts last Saturday against Prairie View A&M, and neither player disappointed in their first action of the season.

Collette, who transfered to Utah from Utah State, had not played in a game since March 12, 2015, but made his presence felt immediately after scoring Utah's first two points against the Panthers. Collette finished with 11 points and nine boards on the night.

Barefield, who transfered in from SMU and last played on Dec. 5, 2015, scored a team-high 18 points and dished out four assists in his debut donning the Red & White. Barefield sank five three-pointers - a new team season-high for the Utes this season.

ANOTHER DOUBLE-DOUBLE FOR KUZMA
Junior
Kyle Kuzma registered his fifth straight and sixth double-double overall on the season with 18 points and 15 rebounds against PVAMU on Saturday.Â

Kuzma heads into this weekend averaging a double-double on the year with 16 points and 11.3 rebounds. He leads the team in both categories.Â
Â
Kuzma and Washington State's Josh Hawkinson are the only players in the league averaging a double-double on the season.

CLEANING THE GLASS
The Utes continue to lead both the Pac-12 and the nation in rebounds, pulling down 46.0 boards per game as a team. Utah is ranked third in the nation pulling down 32.9 defensive rebounds per game and second in the nation with a +14.0 rebound margin.

Kyle Kuzma now ranks first in Pac-12 and 10th in the nation with his 11.3 boards per game. Freshman
Jayce Johnson ranks among the top-20 in the Pac-12 with 5.9 boards per game.
