SALT LAKE CITY- The Utah women's track and field team will be heading back up to Seattle, Wash. this weekend to compete at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships. The Utes will begin competition on Friday, Feb. 26 at 4:30 p.m. PT with the women's 60-meter hurdles at the Dempsey Indoor Facility. The meet continues on Saturday, Feb. 27.
The MPSF consists of 19 of the West's top track and field programs. The group is comprised of members of the Big West, Pac-12 and West Coast Conferences. All twelve Pac-12 indoor track and field programs will compete including No. 1 Oregon, No. 10 USC, and No. 17 Washington.
"From a team perspective, we just want to do as well as we can and have a bunch of PRs," Utah head coach Kyle Kepler said. "This meet, for a lot of teams, is a chance to use it as a last-chance meet for kids to qualify for the NCAAs, get a lifetime best, or start looking toward the outdoor season. We are not quite in the same hurried rush that some programs are in other leagues, which makes it nice."
"The kids are excited," Kepler continued. "We had a great week of workouts this past week. We will have another great week of workouts this week and hopefully get freshened up and be ready to go on Friday and Saturday."
The Utes currently have eight athletes ranked in the top 25 in the MPSF. Sophomore Sarah Feeny is currently ranked third in the conference in the 3,000 after her school-record performance at the Husky Classic. Feeny also ranks seventh in the mile, with a personal best time of 4:38.57 at the UW Invitational. Hannah McInturff will also help lead the distance group.
The middle distance events will feature redshirt senior Ali Eisenbeiss and senior Allison Aafedt competing. Eisenbeiss currently ranks 12th in the MPSF in the 800 with a season-best time of 2:08.46 at the UW Invitational.
Junior Alissa Atisme leads the Ute sprinting group with a personal-best 400 time of 55.74 seconds.
Other athletes to keep an eye out for this weekend include Shaylen Crook (distance), Kate Stringfellow (distance), Jocelyn Todd (distance), and Courtney Jost (jumps).
