ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Utah men's basketball head coach Larry Krystkowiak was named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) District VIII Coach of the Year, sophomore Jakob Poeltl was named Player of the Year and senior Jordan Loveridge was tabbed an All-District selection, the USBWA announced on Tuesday.
For each of the nine geographic districts, ten players are selected as well as a player and coach of the year. Utah joined three other schools that boast the honor of having both district player and coach of the year, joining Villanova, District II (Josh Hart and Jay Wright), Virginia, District III (Malcolm Brogdon and Tony Bennett) and Oregon, District IX (Dillon Brooks and Dana Altman).
Kyrstkowiak helped guide the Runnin' Utes to a 24-7 overall record and a second-place finish in the Pac-12 with a league-mark of 13-5.
Poeltl, who was tabbed an All-Pac-12 First Team selection along with being named the league's Player of the Year, led the Utes in points (17.5), rebounds (9.1) and field goal percentage (.660) this season. He recorded 14 double-doubles on the season and posted double-digit scoring efforts in all but four games.
Loveridge earned All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention accolades while leading the Utes in three-pointers made (79) and three-point field goal percentage (.407). He has posted double-digit scoring efforts in eight stragiht games and 17 games total for the season.
No. 2 seed Utah will play No. 7 seed USC (20-11) or No. 10 seed UCLA (15-16) in the Pac-12 Tournament quarterfinals on Thursday, March 10. Tip-off is set for 6:15 p.m. PST at MGM Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.
