LEXINGTON, Ky. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) has recognized the Utah volleyball program's success off the court by honoring the Utes with a 2015-16 Team Academic Award, the organization announced this week.
The Utes, who finished the academic year with a cumulative 3.33 team grade point average, garnered its first AVCA team honor since 2012-13 and the fourth time overall since 2010.
Utah was one of four teams in the Pac-12 (Arizona State, Oregon State, Stanford) to receive the award.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
Utah opens the 2016 season against Idaho State on Friday, Aug. 26, in Utah Volleyball Classic.
