Utah Volleyball Picked Eighth in 2016 Preseason Poll

Junior Adora Anae named to preseason All-Pac-12 team
SAN FRANCISCO – The University of Utah volleyball team has been picked to finish eighth in the 2016 Pac-12 Volleyball Preseason Coaches Poll, the league office announced on Wednesday.
The Utes, who garnered 48 total points in the preseason poll, is coming off a 2015 campaign in which the team went 10-21 overall and 4-16 in league play, while tying for 10th place in the league standings.
Stanford was picked to finish first for a second-straight season after picking up nine of the league's 12 first-place votes. The Cardinal earned a total of 119 points to take the top spot.
UCLA earned a first-place nod and totaled 103 points to come in second overall in the preseason poll. Rounding out the top-five spots were Washington (one first-place vote, 99 points), Oregon (95 points) and USC (one first-place vote, 85 points).
Arizona (72 points) and Colorado (50) came in just ahead of the Utes, while Washington State (46 points), California (27 points), Arizona State (26 points) and Oregon State (22 points) rounded out the preseason rankings.
Junior outside hitter/right side Adora Anae (Laie, Hawaii) was one of 14 players named to the Preseason All-Pac-12 Volleyball Team. Anae, who was Utah's first player to be named to the preseason squad last season, was named to the Pac-12 First Team in 2015 after finishing the campaign with a school-record 501 kills.
Utah returns 12 letterwinners from last season's squad, which includes returning starters Anae, Carly Trueman, Berkeley Oblad, Emma Kirst and Jessie Openshaw. Along with two redshirt players from last season's squad, the Utes also welcome four incoming freshmen and one junior college transfer.
The Utes open the 2016 season hosting the annual Utah Volleyball Classic on Aug. 26-27. Utah will open the tournament against Idaho State on Friday, Aug. 26 and will then face Gonzaga (10 a.m.) and Butler (7 p.m.) on Aug. 27.
Utah volleyball fans are also encouraged to attend this coming weekend's Red/White scrimmage to get a first glimpse of this year's team. The scrimmage will be held at the Huntsman Center at 1 p.m. Admission is free.
