Goalkeeper coach takes position with Terriers
SALT LAKE CITY - Utah goalkeeper coach Molly Poletto has announced she will be leaving to take a spot on the soccer staff at Boston University.
"I am very grateful for my time at Utah as a student-athlete and coach," Poletto stated. "I appreciate everything Coach Manning, the administration, the community and team did for me, allowing me to grow and be a part of the Ute family."
"This is a fantastic opportunity for Molly to take another step in her coaching path," Utah head coach Rich Manning said. "She is headed to a top-class program at Boston University and coaching under a true pro in Nancy Feldman. I am excited for her and know that she will bring great quality to that program."
I remember speaking with Molly during her freshman year (2011). She had just been told she would not be able to play soccer any more due to injury and from that point, she was committed at that time to becoming a top coach. Since then she has worked so hard, impacted our program and developed as a coach. We are so thankful for her contribution here and excited to see what her future holds!"
An Englewood, Colo., native, Poletto worked primarily with the Utes' goalkeepers this past season as a volunteer assistant coach after spending the previous three years as an undergraduate assistant coach. Following her promotion, Utah keeprs improved its goals-against average from 1.21 in 2015 to a miniscule 0.65. The team's save percentage also improved from .784 to .860. The Utes also doubled their shutout total to 10.
Poletto originally joined Utah as a student-athlete in the fall of 2011 but saw her collegiate career cut short by injury, leading to the decision to focus on coaching. While assiting the Utes, she also served as the Director of Goalkeeping and an age group head coach for the Utah Avalanche club team and worked with the state's ODP program the Region IV ODP goalkeepers.
As a high school goalkeeper, Poletto was named Most Outstanding Player three straight years (2008, `09, `10) at Cherry Creek in Colorado. She helped lead CCHS to the 2011 Region championship, while also participating in the U.S. Women's National Team Youth program, including U17 Youth National Team camps in 2009.
She holds a USSF "B" license and serves as an instructor for the USSF "E" licenses. After graduating cum laude from the University of Utah in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in communications and a minor in psychology, she completed her master's degree in sports psychology last spring.
