Van der Veen Named All-West Region

First national honor for Ute junior

KANSAS CITY – Utah junior Paola van der Veen was selected All-West Region by the United Soccer Coaches.

A native of The Netherlands, Van der Veen responded to an injury-plagued sophomore season with an outstanding junior year. For her efforts, she was named to the third team.

Van der Veen, an All-Pac-12 selection, finished fourth in the conference with eight goals and fifth in the league with 20 points, pacing the Utes in both categories.

She scored a pair of goals, including the winner, at Big West champion Cal State Fullerton and also had a brace in a tie with Arizona State. She also netted in a 2-1 loss at No. 3 Duke.

This is the first national postseason honor for Van der Veen and she joins current Utes Hailey Skolmoski and Tavia Leachman, who were both selected last season.

Van der Veen is the 19th Ute in program history to earn NSCAA/USC All-Region honors and the 16th for head coach Rich Manning.
