Paola van der Veen was named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-West Region Team this afternoon. The senior earned a spot on the second team with a 3.3 grade-point average in film and the media arts
Van der Veen was also named an All-West Region performer after finishing fourth in the Pac-12 with eight goals and fifth with 20 points. She paced the Utes in both categories.
The native of The Netherlands is a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic selection and was a second team All Pac-12 pick this season.
She scored a pair of goals, including the winner, at Big West champion Cal State Fullerton and also had a brace in a tie with Arizona State. She also netted in a 2-1 loss at No. 3 Duke.
This is the first time Van der Veen has been named one of the top student-athletes by the United Soccer Coaches. She is the 21st all-region selection for the program after
Katie Rogers was recognized last season.
