LAST TIME OUT
Utah registered its sixth win of the season when leading start-to-finish, downing Northwestern State, 84-62, in the team's final non-conference game last Wednesday at the Huntsman Center.
Â
The Utes were led by
Tyler Rawson and
Justin Bibbins, who both scored 25 points each on the night. Both players recorded new career-high scoring efforts, while also leading the Utes from beyond the three-point line.
Â
Rawson sank four shots from downtown, while Bibbins went on to drain seven three-pointers in the game. Utah finished the contest with 15 three-pointers as a team.
Â
Utah closed out non-conference play going 8-3 overall, which included a 6-0 mark inside the Huntsman Center.
Â
SCOUTING OREGON
The Ducks went 10-3 overall in non-conference play and will bring in a five-game winning streak following a 96-82 victory over Central Arkansas back on Dec. 20. Oregon went 8-1 at home during non-conference play, with its only loss coming to Boise State back on Dec. 1. The loss snapped Oregon's national-leading home winning streak at 46 games.
Â
The Ducks are led by Payton Pritchard's 16.3 points per game average and .453 three-point field goal shooting. He also leads the team with 60 assists and 17 steals on the season. Kenny Wooten leads the team with 41 blocked shots, while Troy Brown has tallied a team-high 7.8 rebounds per game.
Â
The Ducks are shooting .479 from the field, .377 from beyond the arc and .773 from the free throw line. Oregon averages 39.7 boards per game, while giving up just .31.6 rebounds to opposing teams. Their +8.1 rebounding margin leads the Pac-12 and ranks among the top-30 in the nation.
Â
SERIES HISTORY WITH THE DUCKS
Oregon leads the all-time series 19-9 and has won nine straight dating back to 2013. Utah's last win over the Ducks was a 72-62 victory at the Huntsman Center back on March 9, 2013. Utah is just 2-8 all-time when facing Oregon in Eugene, with its last win coming back in 1951. The Utes have dropped seven straight to the Ducks in Eugene since that time.
Â
SCOUTING OREGON STATE
The Beavers tallied a non-conference record of 8-4 and are coming off a 79-78 road loss to Kent State back on Dec. 21. Prior to the loss, Oregon State had won six straight. OSU went 7-1 at home during non-conference play, with its only loss coming to Wyoming back on Nov. 13.
Â
Tres Tinkle leads a quartet of players averaging double figures on the season, with an 18.2 points per game average. Stephen Thompson, Jr., follows with 16.2 points per game. Tinkle also leads the team with 7.2 rebounds per game and 18 steals. Thompson Jr. has tallied a team-high 42 assists, while Drew Eubanks leads the Beavers with 19 blocked shots on the season.
Â
The Beavers are shooting .479 from the field, .299 from three-point range and .722 from the charity stripe.
Â
SERIES HISTORY WITH THE BEAVERS
Utah leads the all-time series 17-12, but both teams have split the season series the previous two seasons, with both home teams earning wins. Utah is just 2-11 all-time when facing the Beavers at Gill Coliseum, with its last win coming back on Feb. 19, 2015.
Â
The series is tied at 5-5 since Utah joined the Pac-12 back in 2011-12.
Â
OPENING UP PAC-12 PLAY
Heading into its seventh season as a member of the Pac-12 Conference, Utah is 2-4 all-time in Pac-12 Conference opening games. The Utes won last season's conference opener, 76-60, over Colorado at home.
Â
The Utes are 0-3 in conference-opening games that have come on the road, which includes a Pac-12-opening loss at Oregon (70-68 in overtime) back on Jan. 2, 2014.
Â
BREAKING OUT THE UMBRELLAS
It was raining three-pointers for the Utes in its final non-conference game against Northwestern State at the Huntsman Center back on Dec. 20.
Tyler Rawson hit four three-pointers and
Justin Bibbins drained seven from downtown as Utah finished the contest connecting on 15-of-36 (.417) from three-point range as a team.
Â
Bibbins' seven three-pointers are tied for second-most in a single game in school history and he became the first Ute to knock down seven threes in a game since Johnnie Bryant totaled seven three-pointers against Virginia back on Dec. 20, 2006. Meanwhile, Utah's team total of 15 three-pointers rank as the third-most in a single game, coming in only behind the school-record mark of 17 (2002) and 16 (2016) three-pointers.
Â
Utah Picked Seventh in PAC-12 Preseason Poll
The Utah men's basketball team has been picked seventh in the 2017-18 Pac-12 men's basketball preseason poll, the league office announced earlier this season. Voted on by various different media members and outlets that cover the league, Utah garnered 129 of a possible 1,794 points in the poll.
Â
Arizona was a near unanimous favorite, receiving 22-of-23 first-place votes and 273 points to land atop the preseason poll. USC was picked to finish second after receiving the other first-place vote and totaled 251 points as the predicted runner-up. UCLA was slotted third with 223 points, followed by Oregon in fourth with 203 points. Stanford rounded out the top five predicted finishers with 182 total points in the poll.
Â
Arizona State was picked just ahead of the Utes in sixth with a total of 146 points and Oregon State followed Utah, picked to finish eighth with 125 points. Colorado tallied 112 points and was predicted to finish ninth, while Washington tallied 71 points to come in 10th. California (46 points) and Washington State (33) rounded out the final two teams in the poll.
Â
