Utah Softball finishes 5-0 at Kajikawa Classic
TEMPE, Ariz. - Utah Softball earned its third shutout in a row with a 12-0 blanking of UT Arlington in five innings Sunday afternoon. The Utes were perfect at the Kajikawa Classic and start 5-0 for the first time since 2010.
The Utes out-scored their opponents 47-5 this weekend as Anissa Urtez paced the squad, going 10-for-15 (.667) and driving in nine runs. Heather Bowen also drove in nine runs and batted .375 while Hannah Flippen led the way with seven runs scored and a .462 batting average.Â

Utah executed a perfect double-steal in the next inning, with Urtez sliding safely into second and Barrera taking home. Castro had another RBI in the third with a single that scored Sammy Cordova. A UTA error on a Maddie Roth grounder would then score Ryley Ball to make it 8-0.

In the fourth, Bella Secaira came through with a single down the left-field line that brought in Aubrey Peterson. A poor throw on a Hailey Hilburn grounder allowed Secaira and Cordova to score once more and BreOnna Castaneda capped the scoring with a double down the right-field line that plated Ball.

The Utes now travel to Long Beach for four games vs. the host 49ers and CSU Bakersfield on Friday and Saturday.

Katie Donovan and Miranda Viramontes combined on another shutout, the fourth of the weekend, by allowing just five hits and striking out eight. The shutout bid was kept intact thanks to a diving catch by Delilah Pacheco in the fourth
