Utah Softball heads to Hawaii for the Outrigger Spring Fling Tournament. The Utes will play a pair of games against Toledo and Charleston Southern with a contest vs. the host Rainbow Wahine sandwiched in between.Â
UTAH NOTES
-Â Utah dropped a few spots to No. 20 in the latest ESPN/USA Softball rankings and to in the No. 21 iNFCA/USA Today rankings.
- Utah was pegged at No. 15 earlier in the season, it's highest ranking in program history.
- Hannah Flippen recently surpassed the 200-hit and 100-RBI plateaus for her career. She is nine runs shy of setting the Utah career mark for runs scored set by Sandy Rhea (1995-98).
- Flippen currently ranks fourth in slugging percentage (.784) as well as fifth in doubles and on-base percentage (.541) among Pac-12 players. She also sits eighth in batting average (.451) and runs scored.
- After a weekend where she was called upon to produce in the circle, Hailey Hilburn is fifth in the nation and leads the Pac-12 with a 0.24 ERA.
- Katie Donovan is fifth in Pac-12 with seven wins and seventh in strikeouts. She recently surpassed 300 strikeouts for her career.Â
- Miranda Viramontes threw a perfect game vs. CSU Bakersfield, Utah's first in a decade. She carries a 0.90 ERA, and ranks third in the conference
 - Heather Bowen is also heating up with a team-high 22 runs batted in, leading the Pac-12 and ranking 17th nationally.
- She is also eighth in the Pac-12 with a .451 batting average and .706 slugging percentage while sitting 10th in the league in homers
- Utah currently ranks seventh in the nation with a combined team ERA of 1.04
- Defensively, Utah leads the league in double plays turned, 16th in the nation. This comes after ranking second in the nation last season.
- Utah ranks among the top 40 in batting average (.324, 33rd) and runs per game (6.1, 37th).
LAST WEEK
The Utes split four games at the Red Desert Classic in St. George. Hailey Hilburn threw the first complete game of her career and went 2-0 with a 0.33 ERA in all four contests. Heather Bowen was the offensive star, batting .455, smacking a pair of homers and driving in six
BARRERA NAMED PAC-12 FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Utah outfielder Alyssa Barrera was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week on Feb. 28 for her performances on the field at the Mary Nutter Classic.
The Chino Hills, California native led the team with four runs scored, a .438 batting average and also slugged .563. She reached base safely in her first 13 games and opened her collegiate career with an 11-game hit streak.
She currently ranks fifth in the Pac-12 with 18 runs scored and has yet to strike out this season in 51 at bats.
