SALT LAKE CITY - Two Utah Softball student-athletes,
Katie Donovan and
Hannah Flippen, were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 team this afternoon.
Donovan, a junior, and Flippen, a senior were part of the 12-player squad that includes student-athletes from institutions in California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona and Utah
Flippen, an Academic All-American last season is one of three Utes to earn the recognition, joining Kathleen Thornley (1983) and Ali Andrus-Saga (1997). Donovan was an All-District pick last season and Utah now has four honorees over the past two years after no selections from 2013-15.
Flippen leads the Pac-12 with a .431 batting average and .517 on-base percentage, is second in slugging percentage (.740), third in runs batted in (42), seventh in runs scored (36), doubles (10) and hits (53) and eighth in total bases (91)
Donovan has 14 wins to give her 51 for her career. She ranks ninth in the Pac-12 in strikeouts, recently surpassing 300 K's for her career, and has also notched two saves
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
