Â
SERIES HISTORY
Utah is 2-14 all time against the Stanford Cardinal. The last victory came in 2016 in a 3-1 victory on the road for the Utes.
Â
The other victory over Stanford came in 2005 when the Cardinal were ranked No. 1.
Â
The Utes are 10-8 against the Cal Bears and have currently won four in a row and six of the last seven against the Bears.
Â
RANKED OPPONENTS
The Utes are coming off of their first Pac-12 victory over No. 13 Washington on the road. That's the first ranked opponent Utah has beaten this season.
Â
In the Pac 12, it doesn't get any easier as the conference has eight teams ranked in the top 25. Stanford comes into the Huntsman Center ranked No. 2 in the country. It is the second team this season that the Utes have played ranked in the top 2 in the country. In the program's history, Utah has two wins over teams ranked in the top-5.
Â
One of them came back in 2005 when Stanford was ranked No. 1. That win came on the road in Palo Alto.Â
Â
YOUTH MOVEMENT
With the injury to
Berkeley Oblad, the Utes have been forced to go very young on the court. They are currently starting five underclassmen with
Dani Drews,
Kenzie Koerber and
Megan Yett starting on the outside and
Phoebe Grace and
Kennedi Evans starting in the middle.
Â
All five of those players have made impacts as well. Drews leads the team in kills and is second on the team in digs as well as ranking sixth in the Pac 12 in points per set.
Â
Grace leads the team in blocks and is 10th in the Pac-12 averaging 1.18 blocks per set. She is also third on the team in kills with 112.
Â
This past weekend, Yett had two double-doubles and led the team in kills with 16 in their win over Washington. Evans also was a big contributor coming up with 7.0 blocks in the match against Washington.
Â
Koerber had a career high with 15 kills against Washington State and has had at least 7.0 blocks in two of the four matches in Pac-12 play.
Â
NO PLACE LIKE HOME
In 2017, Utah averaged 2,017 fans in its 16 home matches. Throughout the season out of the top-10 crowds in the Huntsman Center ever, six of the 10 came in 2017.
Â
This season, Utah fans haven't slowed down as the Utes rank 13th in the country averaging 2,671 fans per match. That is the highest average in the Pac-12.
Â
The next match in the Huntsman Center is Friday, October 5 at 6 p.m. against No. 2 Stanford.
Â
RPI RANKINGS UNVEILED
In the NCAA's initial RPI rankings, Utah came in at No. 43. They are the eighth highest team in the Pac-12.
Â
Stanford comes in as the top team ranked No. 1 in the RPI.
Â
A LOOK AHEAD
Utah will be at home for a second straight weekend hosting Oregon State and Oregon.
Â
The Utes will play the Beavers Thursday, October 11 and then have a Sunday matchup with the Ducks on Sunday, October 14 at 12 p.m.
