Utah came out swinging in the first going point-for-point with Stanford, but the Cardinal gained the edge going on a 7-1 run to take a six-point lead up 18-12. Needing something to get back into the set, the Utes went on a 5-0 run to get within one point. Stanford thought they took control back, going back up 23-20, but out of a Utah timeout, the Utes won four of the next five points to spoil a set point for Stanford and get one of their own. Utah ended up having two set points in the first, but Stanford answered both times and eventually won three straight points to win the opening set 28-26.
Â
A big part of the Utes comeback in the first set was having 5.0 blocks. Drews,
Phoebe Grace and
Kennedi Evans each had 2.0 blocks in the first frame.
Â
In the second set, Utah got going and went on a 6-1 run to go up 16-13. The number two team in the nation had another answer though and took a 23-21 lead, threatening to go 2-0 in the match. The Utes didn't flinch, winning the next four points and capping off the set with a
Kinga Windisch ace to even the match 1-1.
Â
Stanford grabbed momentum early in the third set with a 5-1 run. Utah didn't go away though keeping it close, but the Cardinal edged out just enough to take the lead in the match after a 25-19 third-set victory.
Â
With a key road victory in their grasp, Stanford took care of business in the fourth to clinch the match 3-1.
Â
The Utes had double-digit digs led by
Brianna Doehrmann with 18, followed by
Bailey Choy with 15 and
Megan Yett with 10.
