SALT LAKE CITY – Utah volleyball dropped a tough three-set match to No. 19 Washington State in the Huntsman Center on Wednesday, October 24.

In the first sporting event at Utah since the tragedy Monday night, the Utes held a moment of silence before the match and both teams linked arms on the court to honor
Lauren McCluskey.

The first set started out tight, but the Cougars edged ahead in the middle of the set. Utah went on a 5-0 run late to go up 23-22, but the Cougars responded by winning the next three points to win the opening set 25-23.

Brianna Doehrmann opened the match needing seven digs to become the 11
th player in Utah volleyball history with 1,000 career digs and she didn't waste any time as she reached 1,000 by the end of the first set.

Once again, the second set was tight early, but Washington State got up by two and wouldn't let go of the lead. They closed the set on a run to take a 2-0 lead in the match after taking the second, 25-18.

Utah found themselves in a big hole early in the third set and tried to climb back into the set to stay alive, but Washington State was too good on this night. The Utes did get back within three, but the Cougars closed out the match with a 25-21 third-set victory.

On Doehrmann's big night, she finished with 18 digs averaging 6.0 digs per set.

Kenzie Koerber led the team in kills with 12 and also chipped in with 6.0 blocks and three digs.

Utah has a quick turnaround as they will now prepare for No. 21 Washington on Friday, October 26. First serve will be at 6 p.m. against the Huskies and it will be broadcasted on Pac-12 Network. The match will be Utah's Pink Match.
