QUICK KICKS
- The Utes have not won a true road game against a Top 25 team since it beat No. 16 BYU during the 2007 season, a run of 27 contests; it did defeat No. 10 Florida State at a neutral site in the 2016 NCAA Tournament.
- Utah shut out four Pac-12 opponents in a row earlier this season. This was the longest scoreless streak for the Utah defense since it blanked nine consecutive foes during the 2006 season en route to an 18-5-1 record.
-
Holly Daugirda's game-winner vs. WSU was her first since her collegiate debut against Weber State in 2016
- The win over WSU was Utah's first overtime win against a Pac-12 school in almost three seasons (10/30/15 vs. ASU)
- Five Utes have started every game this season; Daugirda,
Haylee Cacciacarne,
Hailey Skolmoski,
Hailey Stodden and
Carly Nelson
- Utah is No. 9 in the United Soccer Coaches Pacific Regional Rankings
WEEKEND RECAP
Utah played its final game at Ute Field with a 0-0 double overtime draw with No. 2 USC.
Carly Nelson made a career-high 11 saves and denied a penalty kick against the Trojans for the second year in a row. The Utes also had their chances, hitting the post in what would have been the biggest win in program history.
DUNN DOING WORK
After one point in her first two seasons (40 games),
Ireland Dunn has 15 points, second most on the team. In Pac-12 play, she leads the league with six assists and ranks seventh in points
She is the first Utah player with at least five assists in conference play since Kelly Isleib (5) in 2008. Dunn also matched the record for total assists in a season since joining the Pac-12, seven, set by Avery Jenkins in 2014.
NELSON NAMED PAC-12 GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Carly Nelson was named the Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week on Oct. 9 for her shutout performances against Washington and No. 7 Washington State.
Nelson made nine saves in the win over the Huskies and then blanked the nationally ranked Cougars.
Nelson leads the league with 82 saves and five shutouts in Pac-12 play. She also ranks fourth with a .828 save percentage and fifth with a 1.16 goals against average.
This was the 14th Pac-12 weekly award for Utah Soccer and second for Nelson.
PO POWER
Paola van der Veen has scored seven times this year (10th in the Pac-12) to pace the team. Her three game-winners in Pac-12 play are the most of any player
She was an All-Pac-12 performer last season and named All-West Region by the United Soccer Coaches.
A native of The Netherlands, Van der Veen responded to an injury-plagued sophomore season with an outstanding junior year. Van der Veen finished fourth in the conference with eight goals and fifth in the league with 20 points, pacing the Utes in both categories.
This was the second Pac-12 postseason honor for Van der Veen. She earned a spot on the All-Freshman team in 2015 when she paced Utah with six assists, ranking sixth in the Pac-12.
