Youth Movement
With the injury to
Berkeley Oblad, the Utes have been forced to go very young on the court. They are currently starting five underclassmen with
Dani Drews,
Kenzie Koerber and
Megan Yett starting on the outside and
Phoebe Grace and
Kennedi Evans starting in the middle.
All five of those players have made impacts as well. Drews leads the team in kills and is second on the team in digs as well as ranking sixth in the Pac-21 in points per set.
Phoebe Grace leads the team in blocks averaging 1.15 blocks per set. She is also third on the team in kills with 114.
This past weekend, Yett had two double-doubles and led the team in kills with 16 in their win over Washington. Evans also was a big contributor coming up with 7.0 blocks in the match against Washington.
Koerber has come up big as well, having a career high with 15 kills against Washington State and has had at least 7.0 blocks in two of the four matches in Pac-12 play.
Drews Does It All
Sophomore
Dani Drews has been a consistent force for the Utes this season on offense and defense. She leads the team with 237 kills and is second on the team with 168 digs.
She is sixth in the Pac-12 averaging 4.40 points per set and is seventh in conference averaging 3.76 kills per set
Rarely leaving the floor, Drews also leads the team with 24 aces on the season. Her .41 aces per set is second in the Pac-12.
Drews has led the team in seven matches this season.
Yett Gets Her Chance
Freshman
Megan Yett got her first career start on the road and stepped up in a big way for the Utes.
She led the team with 18 kills and had her second career double-double finishing with 18 digs. The 18 kills is the most in a match by a freshman in the Pac-12 this season.
Yett followed that performance up with another double-double and led the team with 16 kills in the win at Washington.
