FAST BREAKS
• Utah is set to open the 2018-19 regular-season hosting the Maine Black Bears this Thursday, Nov. 8, at the Huntsman Center.
• The Runnin' Utes are coming off a 23-12 campaign from 2017-18, which included an 11-7 and third-place finish in the Pac-12 Conference.
• Utah earned an at-large bid into the NIT a season ago, going 4-1 and making an appearance in the Championship Finals of the tournament.
• Utah returns seven letterwinners and a pair of redshirt freshmen from a season ago, while welcoming a total of nine incoming players, which includes a graduate transfer, two junior college transfers and six incoming freshmen.
THE GAME
Utah (0-0) will host Maine (0-0) in the 2018-19 season-opener, this Thursday, Nov. 8. Tip-off between the Utes and Black Bears is set for 7 p.m. inside the Huntsman Center.
COVERING THE RUNNIN' UTES
Thursday's contest will air on the Utah Athletics Radio Network (ESPN 700 AM) with Bill Riley and
Jimmy Soto announcing. The game will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks with Ted Robinson calling the action and Steve Lavin providing color commentary.
SCOUTING MAINE
Prior to its contest with the Utes on Thursday, Maine will open its 2018-19 season at Denver on Tuesday, Nov. 6. It marks the first of six consecutive road games the Black Bears will play to open the campaign. Maine defeated Maine-Presque Isle, 82-40, in exhibition play back on Nov. 1.
Yagodin Mykhailo played just 16 minutes off the bench, but led the squad with 14 points, going 6-for-9 from the field and 2-for-4 from three-point range. Stephane Ingo, also playing off the bench, tallied team-highs in rebounds (9) and blocked shots (4). The Black Bears shot 54 percent from the field as a team, which included a 41 percent effort from three-point range. They tallied 16 second-chance points and scored a total of 34 points off 26 forced turnovers.
Maine went 6-26 overall in 2017-18, which included going 3-13 and finishing in eighth place in the America East Conference. The Black Bears ranked third in the AMC in defensive three-point field goal percentage, giving up just .338 to opposing teams spotting up from downtown. They also ranked third in the league with 2.9 blocked shots per game.
Isaiah White returns as the team's leading scorer, averaging 11.9 points per game in 2017-18. White also led the team and ranked among the top-five in the conference with 1.9 blocks per contest. Andrew Fleming returns as the team's leading rebounder, having pulled down 5.3 boards per game last season.
UTAH vs. MAINE SERIES HISTORY
Thursday's showdown with Maine will mark the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
This will mark just the fifth time a Utah squad has taken on a team from the America East Conference. The Utes are 3-1 all-time against teams from the AMC, having gone 3-0 against Stony Brook and 0-1 against Albany. Utah's last game against an AMC foe was back on Dec. 28, 2006, when the Utes fell to Albany, 59-58, at the Huntsman Center.
SEASON-OPENERS
Thursday will mark the eighth season-opener for the Utes under head coach
Larry Krystkowiak. Utah is 7-0 all-time in season-opening games under Krystkowiak, which includes an 83-62 victory over Prairie View A&M in last season's opener.
Utah is 84-26 all-time in season-openers, which also includes a 76-13 mark when the season-opening contest has come at home. The last time a Utah team dropped a season-opener came back in 2009-10, in a 94-87 defeat to Idaho.
LAST TIME OUT
Utah officially got the 2018-19 campaign underway a week ago, downing the College of Idaho, 96-76, in exhibition play. Freshman
Timmy Allen led the way with 18 points, while four other Utes notched double-digit efforts in the win. Senior transfer, Novack Topalovic, registered a double-double with 11 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Sophomore

UP NEXT
Utah will make its first road trip of the season as the team heads to Minneapolis, Minn., to face the Minnesota Golden Gophers next Monday, Nov. 12. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. CT at Williams Arena. The contest will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
