FAST BREAKS
• The Beehive Classic is on-tap for Utah this weekend, as the Runnin' Utes will take on the BYU Cougars this Saturday, Dec. 8, at Vivint Smart Home Arena.
• Saturday's contest marks the second year of a three-year round-robin-style tournament for the Beehive Classic. Utah faced Utah State in the Beehive Classic opener last season and will take on Weber State in the tournament finale next year.
• Saturday's contest will mark the 258th meeting between the Utes and Cougars, but it will be just the 12th time the two squads have faced each other on a neutral court.
• This is the first neutral court meeting between Utah and BYU since March 9, 2006, when the Runnin' Utes and Cougars squared off in the first round of the Mountain West Conference Tournament, which was played at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colo. Utah won the neutral court affair, 74-70.

Jayce Johnson is coming off a 12-point and 12-rebound, double-double effort against Tulsa this past weekend in Salt Lake City. It was the second double-double of Johnson's career, while marking the first double-double for a Utah player since Feb. 22 of last season (
Justin Bibbins, vs. UCLA).
THE GAME
Utah (4-3) will make the very short trip downtown to take on the BYU Cougars (5-4) in the Beehive Classic/Deseret First Duel this Saturday, Dec. 8. Tip-off between the Utes and Cougars is set for 12 p.m. MT at Vivint Smart Home Arena.
COVERING THE RUNNIN' UTES
Saturday's contest will air on the Utah Athletics Radio Network (ESPN 700 AM) with Bill Riley and
Jimmy Soto announcing. The game will be televised on ESNPU with Roxy Bernstein calling the action and Caron Butler providing color commentary.
SCOUTING BYU
Heading into the week, BYU was 5-4 overall, but will play Utah State on Wednesday ahead of its meeting with the Utes on Saturday ... BYU had dropped three straight heading into the week, which included a 113-103 defeat to Weber State in its last contest ... BYU ranks No. 1 in the nation with 33.2 defensive rebounds per game and rank 21st in the nation overall with 42.4 rebounds per game ... Yoeli Childs ranks 3rd in the nation with 11.9 rebounds per game ... Childs is also the team-leader in scoring, averaging 22.0 points per game ... BYU ranks No. 8 in the nation with 157 total assists and 26th in the nation with 17.4 assists per game ... the Cougars have three different players with 20-plus assists on the year ... TJ Haws is the team-leader with 45 assists, while his 5.0 assists per game ranks 71st in the nation ... BYU ranks 39th in the country with 219 total 3-point attempts, but rank just 322nd (out of 351 teams) in the nation with a .283 three-point shooting percentage ... Haws is the team-leader with 17 made three-pointers ... Zac Seljaas has made 16 three-pointers and leads the team with a .372 shooting percentage.
UTAH vs. BYU SERIES HISTORY
Utah and BYU will square off for the 258th time when they meet on Saturday. BYU leads the all-time series by one game, having won 129 times, while Utah has won 128 games in the series. This will mark just the 12th meeting between Utah and BYU when the game is played on a neutral court. It is the first neutral court meeting since March 9, 2006, when the two teams met in the first round of the Mountain West Conference Tournament, which was played in Denver, Colo. - Utah won the contest 74-70.
BYU leads the series 6-5 when games have been played on a neutral court. Utah has won two consecutive neutral court games against BYU and three of the past four dating back to 1999.
LAST TIME OUT
The Utes moved to 3-0 at home following a 69-64 victory over Tulsa this past Saturday at the Huntsman Center. Senior

Jayce Johnson registered a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Utah shot just 37 percent from the three-point arc, but limited Tulsa to just a 16.7 shooting percentage from downtown. The Golden Hurricane went 0-for-15 from beyond the arc in the first half and did not make a three-point basket until its 19th attempt.
The difference in the game came at the free throw line, where Utah went 17-for-27 overall, while limiting Tulsa to just 14 total attempts. Tulsa converted on nine of those attempts on the afternoon.
THE BEEHIVE CLASSIC
This marks the second year of a three-year agreement to play in the Beehive Classic. The four-team, round-robin event was created last year with Utah, BYU, Utah State and Weber State fielding the event. Utah defeated Utah State in the inaugural game last season, downing the Aggies 77-67. BYU would later defeat Weber State, 74-68, in the second game last season.
Weber State and Utah State will square off against each other in the second game on Saturday.
The tournament will end next season with Utah facing Weber State and BYU taking on Utah State.

Utah will hit the road next week as the team travels to Lexington, Ky., to face the No. 9/8 ranked Kentucky Wildcats. The Utes and Wildcats will tip-off at 5 p.m. ET from Rupp Arena and the contest will be televised live on ESPN2.
