Volleyball Earns Top-30 Recruiting Class

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah volleyball program notched another top-30 recruiting class, coming in at No. 30 overall, according to PrepVolleyball.com.
The 2018 incoming class features a total of five newcomers, which includes three incoming freshmen and a pair of college transfers. Taylor Laugero (Santa Clara) and Kinga Windisch (Coastal Carolina) will both transfer to the U this coming season, while Utah's incoming freshman class includes Kennedi Evans (Twin Falls, Idaho), Saige Ka'aha'aina-Torees (Honolulu, Hawaii) and Megan Yett (Caldwell, Idaho).
According to PrepVolleyball.com Utah's incoming class consists of "two top-50 Senior Aces and a player who might one day be among Utah's best-ever setters." Evans was the No. 23 overall recruit according to the website, while Yett was tabbed the No. 41 overall player among the top-50. Ka'aha'aina-Torres, who was named Hawaii's Player of the Year, was among the top-250 Senior Aces.
"Kennedi's competitive nature drew us to her and we believe that she will be a great attribute, which will allow her to succeed at the next level," said Utah head coach Beth Launiere. "She is a force at the net, both blocking and attacking, and can hit a multitude of sets, including the always valuable slide.
"Megan is 6-1 outside hitter that is both physical at the net offensively and a tremendous passer. Her natural passing abilities make her a treasured six-rotation player who can impact the match from both front row and back row. She is a tremendous athlete that jumps well and moves effortlessly with a great arm swing. We are so happy to have her in our program and believe she will be a tremendous passing outside hitter in the Pac-12 and an invaluable player for Utah volleyball."
On Ka'aha'aina-Torres, Launiere noted, "She has a very good volleyball IQ, great size and an 'Adora Anae-like' competitiveness."
Utah is one of six Pac-12 teams to register a top-30 class. Washington led the way at No. 3 and Oregon followed at No. 4. UCLA (No. 11), USC (No. 16) and Stanford (No. 19) rounded out the remaining teams from the Pac-12.
This marks the second-consecutive top-30 incoming class for the Utes and the sixth top-30 class since 2004. The Utes tallied a No. 11-ranking in both 2005 and 2017, a No. 20-ranking in 2011, a No. 27-ranking in 2006 and a No. 28-ranking in 2004.
