FIRST SERVE
No. 24 Utah is finished with non-conference tournaments and will turn their focus this week to playing two in-state foes.

They begin by playing No. 1 BYU on Thursday, September 13 on the road in Provo, Utah at 7 p.m. and then return home after seven straight road matches to host Utah Valley.

First serve against Utah Valley will be at 7 p.m. in the Huntsman Center.

SERIES HISTORY
Utah and BYU are very familiar with each other having faced off 100 times. The Utes trail in the series having a 30-70 record. Head coach
Beth Launiere has guided the Utes to 23 of those 30 victories.

The two teams have faced each other 43 straight seasons dating back to 1975.

With the most recent rankings, BYU is ranked No. 1 in the AVCA Coaches Poll. This meeting will mark the second time that the Utes and Cougars face off when BYU is ranked No. 1. The first time was back in 1986 and BYU won that match 3-0.

Against Utah Valley, Utah owns an 11-1 record and have won the past five meetings between the two teams.

GAME AND GUAC
The first 150 students will get free chips and guac to celebrate National Avocado Day for the Friday match against Utah Valley.
Utah Volleyball alumni will also be welcomed back and recognized before the match.
As always, kids 12 and under are free.
COVERING THE UTES
Thursday night, the match will be on BYU TV.

At home against Utah Valley, the match will be streamed online by Utah.

THE DESERETÂ FIRST DUEL
 The Deseret First Duel uses a system that awards points to the winner of each competition. A team trophy will be awarded to the individual winner in each sport. Points won by the individual sports will count toward each school's overall total. A granite traveling trophy is awarded to the overall series champion each year.

Utah won last season's competition and has captured it five of the last six years. The school that wins the head-to-head competition in each sport is also awarded $1,000 by Deseret First Credit Union for its student-athlete scholarship fund. The university that wins the most sports at the end of the season will receive an additional $5,000 from Deseret First for its athletic scholarship fund.

DREWS DOES IT ALL
Sophomore
Dani Drews leads the team in kills with 138 and is second on the team in digs with 105.

She is fifth in the Pac-12 averaging 4.7 points per set and 17th in the conference averaging 3.00 digs per set. Drews is one of two players in the Pac-12 averaging over four points per set and three digs per set. The other player is Cal's Mima Mirkovic, who averages 4.0 points per set and 3.85 digs per set.

This past weekend, Drews posted double-doubles in all three matches against Villanova, Temple and High Point, giving her five on the season.

UTES HIT AT A HIGH PERCENTAGE
Utah is second in the Pac-12 hitting .282 through nine matches. They have hit over .300 in three matches this season.

A big part of the good hitting percentage is junior setter
Bailey Choy. Over the last six matches, she has averaged 10.4 assists per set and totaled over 50 assists in two matches last weekend

Against Temple, she matched her career high with 57 assists. The other time she had 57 assists was against BYU in 2016.

SERVING IT UP
Utah has been serving aggressively and it has been paying off as they're tied for third in the Pac-12 averaging 1.58 aces per set.

Dani Drews leads the Utes on the season with 19 service aces. This past weekend, she totaled 10 through three the three matches having three twice and a career high four once.

GRACE'S STRONG START
Redshirt freshman
Phoebe Grace has made an impact through the first nine matches of the season on offense and defense.

She is fourth in the Pac-12 averaging 1.39 blocks per set.Â
Â
Against Montana, Grace set a career high with 11.0 blocks in the three-set match. That is the second most blocks this season in a three-set match in the NCAA and tied for the most blocks in any Pac-12 match so far this season.

Along with her defense, Grace is third on the team in kills with 77 and second in the Pac-12 hitting .427. She has only had 13 errors on 150 attack attempts so far this season.

A LOOK AHEAD
Utah will begin Pac-12 play on the road against Colorado on Wednesday, September 19.

The Utes will then return home and host UCLA in the Huntsman Center on Friday, September 21.
