No. 18 Utah is ready for a special weekend as it celebrates head coach
Beth Launiere's 30th season coaching. The festivities will be after the UCLA match this Friday, October 11.
Not only will Launiere be celebrated, but they will be retiring Kim Turner's jersey. It will be the first jersey retired in program history.
On the court, the Utes will be hosting the LA schools as it plays UCLA on Friday at 7 p.m. and USC on Sunday at 12 p.m.
After sweeping UCLA, the Utes will be going for their fourth win in a row when they host USC on Sunday.
CLEAN SWEEP
Out of Utah's 12 wins this season, nine of them have been clean sweeps over its opponents with the latest coming against UCLA.
The Utes have two other sweeps in Pac-12 play including Arizona State and Colorado.It was only the second time that the Utes have swept their Pac-12 opener with the first time happening in their first ever match in the Pac-12 back in 2011.
KA'AHA'AINA-TORRES CONTROLS THE OFFENSE
Saige Ka'aha'aina-Torres is 20th in the country averaging 10.94 assists per set. Her latest match she almost set a career high in just three sets of action against UCLA finishing with 47 assists
Through 15 matches, she has had nine 40-assist matches with three of those coming in three-set matches. Her career high came against BYU with 49 assists in four sets.
DREWS PICKS UP WHERE SHE LEFT OFF
Dani Drews finished the 2018 season on fire and hasn't slowed down in 2019. At Pepperdine, she totaled 62 kills hitting .293 and averaged 4.77 kills per set in the three matches.
This season, she has five 20-kill matches and in her latest match had 17 kills in three sets hitting .412.
The Second Team All-American had 17 kills in the sweep against UCLA hitting .412 and leads the team in kills so far this season with 259 kills.
