SALT LAKE CITY - Tavia Leachman has been named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week after leading Utah's defense to a shutout of Colorado.
In the final home game of her career, Leachman played the full 90 minutes of Utah's 10th shutout of the season. She successfully completed 33 passes at an 85 percent rate, made eight interceptions, won seven of eight defensive challenges and both her tackles.
"Tavia was a rock for us against a very good Colorado attack," head coach RIch Manning said. "She has been such a critical part of our team this season. We have 10 shutouts and her tackling, passing out of the back and overall aerial presence have played a tremendous role."
The Long Beach, California native has started every game this season and played every minute in all but two contests
This is the 17th Pac-12 weekly award for Utah Soccer and first for Leachman. Utah is headed to Durham, N.C. this Friday to play at No. 12 Duke in the NCAA Tournament First Round
