FIRST SERVE
No. 15 Utah is on the road for the second straight week taking on No. 22 Washington State and No. 13 Washington.
Â
In this season's first matchup, the Utes dropped a five-set match against Washington State after defeating Washington in four sets.
Â
Going into the weekend, Utah is tied for second in the Pac-12 tied at 10-4 in the conference. Two of the team's they are tied with are the Cougars and Huskies. The third team is the Cal Bears.
Â
Utah's game with Washington State will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Networks and Washington will just be streamed online.
Â
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Utah picked up its third straight Pac-12 weekly honor this week as
Zoe Weatherington was named Freshman of the Week.
Â
Weatherington had double-figure kills in both matches and hit .300 for the weekend. It was the first weekly award she has won in her career.
Â
Kenzie Koerber has picked up the other two Pac-12 weekly awards for Utah. Last week, she was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week after having two double-doubles against Arizona State and Arizona.
Â
Along with leading the team in kills with 17, she also posted a career high 20 digs against the Sun Devils.
Â
After hosting UCLA and USC, she was named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week finishing with 32 kills hitting .467 over the two matches.
Â
Against UCLA, the junior right side had her fifth double-double of the season finishing with 14 kills and 10 digs. She hit .522 against the Bruins.
Â
Koerber followed that up with an even better performance against USC as she led the team with 18 kills while hitting .432. The 18 kills are the second most she has had this season and were a huge reason that Utah came back from two sets down to win the match against the Trojans.
Â
RARE AIR
After missing most of the 2018 season with an injury, middle Blocker
Berkeley Oblad is back for a fifth season with Utah.
Â
She only played in six games in 2018, but was named an AVCA All-American honorable mention in 2017 after totaling 300 kills and 142 blocks and has made a huge difference this season.
Â
She is second on the team with 111.0 blocks and has been a boost on the offensive end as well being third on the team with 249 kills hitting .290 on the year.
Â
Oblad is on the verge of reaching a second career milestone this season. Earlier this year, she hit the 400-career block mark against Pepperdine. She became the 13th member of the 400-block club in program history.
Â
Now, she is just 10 kills away from reaching kill number 1,000. Once she hits that number, she will become the sixth player in program history to have at least 1,000 kills and 500 blocks.
Â
DOEHRMANN MOVES UP RECORD BOOKS
Brianna Doehrmann has moved up the record books this season after posting six 20-dig matches.
Â
After having 16 digs against Oregon, Doehrmann moved up in third spot for career digs in program history and is approaching the second spot only 39 digs away as she currently sits at 1,523 career digs.
Â
In 2018, she became the 11th player in program history and 164th player in Pac-12 history that reached the 1,000-career digs mark.
Â
Doehrmann had eight matches last year with at least 20 digs and three 20-dig matches this season.
Â
PROGRAM RECORD
Dani Drews stepped up when it mattered most against USC setting a program record with 33 kills while hitting .348. The Utes needed everyone of them as they came back from a 2-1 deficit to get a big five-set victory over the Trojans on the road.
Â
Earlier in the season, she surpassed the 1,000-career kill mark against Cal becoming the 17th player in program history to reach the mark.
Â
This season, she has 11 20-kill matches and two 30-kill matches after her record-setting night.
Â
Drews leads the Pac-12 in kills with 465 and is fourth in the conference averaging 4.60 kills per set.
