With Senior Day this Wednesday, November 27 at 4 p.m., the parents of each senior wrote a letter to their daughter. First up, is Kinga Windisch.
My darling daughter,
Now, as I am preparing to visit you, I am wondering about how it all began…
You were just a child, hardly nine years old, when you started telling me that you wanted to play volleyball, and you begged and begged me until I went to find you a club. At first, I thought to myself that the idea will pass just as it came, and children just want to try something new, something different all the time, but by the time I took you to your first practice it was all decided. You told me right away that you fell in love with volleyball and this love has been guiding your life ever since. Almost no day has passed without training and no weekend without a game. The volleyball court became your second home.
The game that one cannot stop playing even if they wanted to, had begun for you. You trained so hard and tried so hard. You were so tough and just kept getting better. Within a few years you became a member of the Budapest team, the youth Hungarian national team with whom you travelled to play tournaments abroad and won. You started playing on the adult team at the age of 15, and after taking part in several European tournaments, you also managed to finish third in the Hungarian Women's Cup. Soon, you were invited to join one of the top 3 teams of the Hungarian league. After you signed for them, you won the National Youth Cup and the Hungarian Women's Cup twice. Your team finished as runner-up twice in the Hungarian Women's Championship and ranked among the top 12 teams in the CEV cup. I watched all your games, and I was so proud of you.
But it wasn't always easy for you. So many times it was very hard. During this time you broke your wrist, both of your ankles and injured your knee, but you always stood back up and had the strength to carry on. You had a dream, to become a great volleyball player and to play volleyball and study in the United States. You gave everything for this and you did it! And there's very few who could accomplish this from such a small country like Hungary!
It took incredible courage to leave behind your big, loving family and try to stand your ground on your own, thousands of miles away from your siblings, parents, friends and home. You took on the unknown, but you were not left alone.
First, you went to Coastal Carolina University and won the Sun Belt Conference Championship in both 2016 and 2017. Your team also proceeded to the NCAA tournament in both years and managed to advance to the second round.
And after two years, you took your chance and took it even further, when you won admittance to this great university at this beautiful place, to become part of such an amazing team and community at the University of Utah. All I can do is to be very grateful that they took you in immediately so kindly and with love.
Even from home far away, we tried to be there for you, but you also fit in so quickly and made such wonderful friends with your cheerfulness, energy and enchanting personality.
We miss you very much and think about you every day, and we can't wait for all of us to see you again.
We love you very, very much and we are so proud of you!
Love,
Mum
