Dear Brianna,
As this exciting chapter of your life is soon coming to an end, Dad and I have been enjoying reflecting on your journey as we write this letter. At the same time, we are saddened by the reality of it.
Â
Your interest in the game of volleyball was evident even at the age of eight when we remember seeing you pepper with your sister Nikki. You were so excited when we enrolled you in the local recreation
league. You were clearly a natural in this sport.
Our next chapter took us to Florida due to Dads military orders, where we enrolled you at the local YMCA recreation league and found out your coach was the former Olympian Keba Phipps. What an awesome experience for you to have had. She was the one that encouraged Dad and I to get you into club volleyball.
And so it began, you started playing for Tampa United VBC where you learned and grew so much as a player. Remember, at this time you were one of the taller girls and played Outside Hitter!! You were hoping you'd have Dad's genes... LOL, that was so funny! Didn't happen!
You coming to the realization that your height expectations were not going to be what you would have liked, you made a mature decision to no longer play the other two sports you loved (softball & soccer) and to focus on just volleyball. Volleyball was the sport you were so passionate about and started training and focusing on the Libero/DS position.
The time came to move yet again to a different state and start the whole process of tryouts and getting noticed amongst club coaches, although a nervous time, you always persevered. Tryouts were a little different when we moved to Virginia this time. Remember when you tried out at a club and they told you that you were too short? WOW!
Boy he didn't know who this hard working, driven, young lady was that he was talking to!! That really struck a chord with you!! Nobody tells Brianna Rose she can't do something!!
As we've told you time and again, with hard work and determination, you can achieve anything you put your heart, mind, and soul into and you did just that!! You found your new home at NVVA where they welcomed you with open arms. It was family oriented, your training was great, and you were so happy. We all were!
As an incoming freshman there in Virginia at Battlefield HS, making the Varsity team as their starting Libero was another exciting time for you. It's funny sometimes how fate can take you into the direction destiny had in store for you.
When dad got stationed in California, we couldn't have asked for a better move. You and Dana were able to go to high school at Vista Murrieta where your brother and sister went and in the area where you all were raised.
So exciting that you and Dana were able to reconnect with so many of your elementary school friends. You made the Varsity team for the BRONCOS and then again, the Club tryouts started. I know that was a difficult decision for you but you ended up at Coast VBC in San Diego. An amazing club where you continued to excel in your position with amazing coaches.Â
When the time came for you to start the recruiting process we thought you were going to have a difficult decision to make, but that summer after your junior year, once you were on the campus of the University of Utah and met the coaches and saw the facilities, you were hooked. No turning back. No need to continue visiting the other schools.
We realize over the years being a military brat wasn't easy and with each move you had to re-establish yourself both on the court and in the classroom/school you attended. All along the way making great friends and long lasting relationships. Unbreakable bonds in Florida, Virginia, California and Utah.
Â
With volleyball you've been able to travel the world and live such an amazing adventure. You've never lost sight of your priorities and have no regrets in all that you have accomplished. You've grown so much along the way and have become a role model to young girls and boys. We love seeing you surrounded by volleyball fans and taking pictures. It makes mom and dad proud to see the effect you have with everyone.
Here we are in your senior season at the U and we selfishly don't want this to be over. Can we please have a 4 year do over? I'm not kidding.
Â
We are so appreciative of the coaching staff for believing in you and bringing you to this beautiful campus in Utah. We will be forever grateful to them for these past four years developing you into the person and player you are today. As they say, it takes a village. It really does!! We are so appreciative to Coach Beth, Coach JJ, Coach Malia, Coach Dan, Coach Sheldon,
Chloe Hirst, Lindsey Adams,
Nona Richardson and the rest of the support staff for everything.
We can't express it enough how much we are so very proud of you, Bri. You are one amazing young lady, and we are so thankful, grateful and honored to have joined you on your exciting journey of your volleyball career.
Your journey has allowed us to meet and make some of our own long-lasting friendships along the way.Â
So many here in Utah as well. Utah has the best volleyball fans!
So let me conclude this by saying we cannot wait for what the next chapter brings. We know whatever it may be you will excel and continue to do your best.
God speed, Banana and always remember, 'Nothing hits the floor!'
GO UTES!
Love,
Mom & Dad
