Women's Tennis To Close Out Fall Season at UNLV Invitational

Utes return to Las Vegas for final fall event.

The University of Utah women's tennis team is set to close out the fall season this week at the UNLV Invitational. The final tournament of the fall will be held Friday through Sunday, Nov. 8-10, at the Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas, Nev.Â
 TOURNAMENT TALK
The UNLV Invitational will feature five flights of singles and three flights of doubles over the course of the weekend. Utah will face stiff competition this weekend with an impressive lineup on tap. Along with the Utes, teams sending competitors will be tournament host UNLV, Kansas, Ole Miss, Georgia Tech, Oregon, Arizona, and Colorado.

Friday's action will get underway with the quarterfinal round of doubles beginning at 10 a.m. PT, followed by the quarterfinal round of singles at the conclusion of doubles action. There will be no live results or stream, however, a recap of each day's action will be made available at UtahUtes.com after the conclusion of competition each day at the UNLV Invitational.

  UTES SEE SEMIFINALS
At the ITA Regionals, Madison Tattini worked her way into the semifinal round in both the main draw of singles, as well as the doubles main draw with partner Whitney Hekking.Â

On the doubles side, the Mountain Region's sixth-seeded duo of Tattini and Hekking opened the event with an 8-5 victory over a doubles team from Air Force and then cruised to an 8-1 win against UNLV to advance to the quarterfinals. Tattini and Hekking would go on to record their third straight win and were set to face the seventh-seeded pair of Asano and Huang from UNLV, where the Utes' doubles run would come to an end.

Carrying the momentum over from doubles to singles, fifth-seeded Tattini rolled in the first two matches of the ITA Regionals and continued the dominant performances when she picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win in the quarterfinals over Denver's Camille Verdon Anderson. Matched up against the region's top-seeded singles player, Tattini dropped the semifinal match 4-6, 3-6 to Northern Arizona's Chiara Tomasetti.
 LAST TIME OUT
The Utah women's tennis team competed in the Kentucky Invite last weekend, competing against teams from DePaul, Miami (Ohio), Penn State, West Virginia, and tournament host Kentucky.Â

In day one of doubles, Emily Dush and Anya Lamoreaux picked up a win against a pair from Kentucky. In singles, Lindsay Hung followed with a victory against Alina Kuzmenkova from DePaul, along with Madison McKay and Madeline Lamoreaux also defeating their opponents from Kentucky. During day two, Anya and Madeline Lamoreaux paired up together for the first time and knocked off a duo from Penn State. The twin sisters and Katya Hersh were then able to pick up victories in singles as well, defeating their respective opponents from Miami.Â

For the third and final day at the Kentucky Invite, the Utes saw success in doubles and singles. Tallying two doubles victories, the duos of Anya Lamoreaux and Hung, and Madeline Lamoreaux and Dush, defeated doubles teams from Miami. To conclude the tournament, Hung picked up another victory in singles against her opponent from DePaul, followed by Madeline Lamoreaux and Hersh recording victories against their opponents from Kentucky to close out the tournament for the Utes.
 UP NEXT
Following a couple months of training, the Utes will look ahead to their 2020 season opener in January. Utah will kick off the spring season with a match at home against Southern Utah University. The match against the Thunderbirds will be held at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center on Saturday, Jan. 11.
