SAN FRANCISCO – University of Utah men's basketball sophomore
Timmy Allen was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week on Monday after averaging 25.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists to guide the Utes to a pair of wins last week over in-state rival BYU and Central Arkansas and remain undefeated inside the Jon M. Huntsman Center.
This is the first player of the week honor for Allen in his career and the first for Utah since
Justin Bibbins earned it on Jan. 22, 2018.
The 6-6 forward first dropped a career-high 27 points with five boards and five assists in the 16-point deficit come from behind win over in-state rival BYU in overtime this past Wednesday. Allen scored 14 of his career-high 27 points in the second half as well – including six of the team's nine points in the final 2:29 minutes of regulation.
Three days later, Allen had his way offensively against Central Arkansas and scored 24 points in just 26 minutes of action for the Utes. He also finished with eight rebounds, five assists and two steals. In addition, Allen was 6-of-8 from the free-throw line against the Bears.
Allen is currently averaging 20.8 points, which is good for second in the Pac-12 and 25th in the nation through games on Dec. 8. His 7.4 rebounds per game is good for eighth among league players while his 6.78 defensive rebounds per game is third-best in the conference. Meanwhile, his constant attack at the rim has allowed him to knock down 46 free throws this season – which is the 24th highest number in NCAA.
Allen and the Utes will now play three-consecutive neutral site games to wrap up the non-conference schedule. First up for Utah will be Weber State (Dec. 14) at Vivint Smart Home Arena followed by Kentucky (Dec. 18) at T-Mobile Arena and San Diego State (Dec. 21) at STAPLES Center.
