SAN FRANCISCO - Utah Softball was selected to finish seventh in the Pac-12 Conference when the 2019 preseason coaches poll was released this afternoon.
The Utes feature a pair of NFCA All-Region selections in
Alyssa Barrera and
Hailey Hilburn, Pac-12 All-Freshman honoree
Julia Noskin and a talented incoming class
UCLA received one more first-place vote than Washington and was selected as the conference favorite. Both teams reached the College World Series last season and are ranked in the top five nationally to begin 2018. Arizona, with eight national titles to its credit, was picked third with Arizona State, another WCWS participant last season, was pegged fourth.
California and Oregon State both advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season and rank fifth and sixth, respectively. The Utes, Stanford, and Oregon round out the poll with the Ducks ranked No. 25 nationally to begin the year
Utah opens play this weekend at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz. They open on Friday with Western Michigan at 11 a.m. and follow with games against Missouri, CSUN, Kansas and Bradley
