SALT LAKE CITY—Utah junior
MyKayla Skinner and senior
MaKenna Merrell-Giles have been named regular season All-Americans by the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association
(WCGA).
Skinner earned four first-team All-America awards for finishing the regular season ranked in the top eight in the nation in the all-around (No. 3), vault (No. 2), bars (No. 6) and floor (No. 6). Merrell-Giles joined Skinner on the first team on vault (No. 8) and picked up second team honors in the all-around (No. 11).
Skinner has become Utah's all-time leader in All-America awards with 22 (regular season and NCAA Championship combined) in her first three seasons, passing former Ute great Ashley Postell (20 from 2005-08). Postell's were all won at the NCAA Championships, where she earned the maximum number of 20 possible All-America certificates. The WCGA began awarding regular season All-America honors in 2013. Nineteen of Skinner's 22 All-America honors are first team (eight NCAA, 11 regular season) and the remaining three are second team.
Merrell-Giles expanded her All-America portfolio to eight, which includes three at the NCAA Championships and five regular season honors—four of them first team.
