SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Pac-12 announced their Preseason Coaches Poll as well as their Preseason All-Pac-12 Team on Monday, August 12.
Dani Drews was voted onto the Preseason All-Pac-12 Team after an unbelievable sophomore campaign that ended with her being an AVCA Second Team All-American. She finished the season with 522 kills, 322 digs and had 18 double-doubles on the season. Drews was just the second Utah player to have over 500 kills in the rally-scoring era.
Drews got better as the year went on and over the last eight matches, when Utah went 6-2, she averaged 5.10 kills per set hitting .332. The Utes closed the regular season winning five of their last six matches to finish tied for sixth in the Pac-12.
Along with being named an All-American for the first time, she also earned All-Region and Pac-12 honors for the first time.
Along with Drews, the Utes return two other All-Americans in
Kenzie Koerber and
Berkeley Oblad. With that experience coming back, Utah was voted to finish fifth in the Pac-12. That is the second highest they've been picked to finish since joining the Pac-12.
The first time fans can get a look at the 2019 Utah Volleyball team will be Saturday, August 24 in the Red/White scrimmage in the Huntsman Center at 2 p.m.
The next weekend, Utah will start their season by hosting Kentucky, Cal Poly and Saint Mary's in the Utah Classic on August 30-31. The Utes play Saint Mary's at noon on Friday, August 30 followed by Kentucky that night at 7:30 p.m. They finish the tournament by playing Cal Poly Saturday, August 31 at 5 p.m.
