SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah volleyball team is one week away from starting their 2019 season by hosting the Utah Volleyball Classic on August 30-31.
Before that, Utah fans can come see the 2019 squad in the Red/White scrimmage in the Huntsman Center on Saturday, August 24 at 2 p.m.
The Utes started school this past Monday and have been practicing every day to prepare for their tough non-conference schedule that has five teams ranked. In the opening weekend, No. 7 Kentucky and No. 23 Cal Poly as well as Saint Mary's will be in town for the Utah Volleyball Classic.

Lauren Sproule reported back to campus after spending all summer playing on Canada's NextGen Team.
Back towards the end of spring semester, head coach
Beth Launiere asked if she'd be interested in training with the Canadian National Team and she jumped at the opportunity.
"Both the Utah volleyball program and team Canada play similar volleyball styles, so I feel like it was more reps of what I know and developing those skills even further for the entire summer," Sproule said.
The majority of her summer, Sproule and her team trained and scrimmaged different teams, but she steadily worked all summer with a payoff at the end.
Sproule earned a spot and got the chance to represent her country in the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru.
"It was kind of surprising because I've always felt nose to the ground and don't really think of the outcome sort of thing," Sproule said. "When it came to the Pan Am Games, I obviously wanted to do that but it was never my ultimate goal in my mind. I tried to stay focused on just getting in the gym and getting better every single day at something. That was just kind of a pat on the back that I'm making improvements and was a big moment for me."
The surprises kept coming as she couldn't have imagined how cool of an experience she was going to have once her and the team got to Peru.
"It was so cool representing my country at the Pan Am Games," Sproule said. "We were staying in dorm like facilities in Peru and everyone had their flags hanging from their windows. We hung up our flag and just felt so proud. Wearing the maple leaf on my jersey was an unreal feeling. I've never experienced that in my life and that was a big moment. Just getting my jersey that first day, we had a ceremony and played the anthem in the locker room. It felt really cool."
After having a great summer, Sproule didn't report to campus until the first day of school on Monday, August 19. She was very excited to get back to her teammates and is looking forward to the season.
"I'm ready to get back to it with my teammates," Sproule said. "I'm ready to build with them and I'm really excited to see what we can do. We've all grown up so much and even in the four months I've been away, everyone has improved so I'm really excited to see what we can do this year."
