SALT LAKE CITY – The next time the Utah volleyball team takes the court in front of their fans, the 2019 season will be officially underway. Today (August 24) Utah held its annual Red/White Scrimmage in the Huntsman Center.
The match was four sets with the red and white team both winning two each.
Dani Drews split time on both teams but totaled 17 kills and 12 digs combined.
Berkeley Oblad got back on the court and hit .476 with 11 kills and 2.0 blocks.
Kenzie Koerber also enjoyed a nice day finishing with 11 kills and 18 digs.
It was the first time for six newcomers to put on the Utah jersey and it was
Zoe Weatherington who led the way with 14 kills and 13 digs.
Emily Smith finished with 35 assists and 15 digs.
To fill out both rosters, the Utes had some help from former player
Lauga Gauta, who came back after graduating in May and assistant coach
Dan Corotan also took part of the action. Gauta had 11 kills on the day and Corotan had 13 kills.
Utah now gets to look forward to hosting the Utah Volleyball Classic starting on Friday, August 30. Utah will play a doubleheader that Friday against Saint Mary's at noon and then No. 7 Kentucky at 7:30 p.m. The Utes will finish the tournament by playing No. 23 Cal Poly Saturday, August 31 at 5 p.m.
