NEDERLAND, Colo. – Addison Dvoracek won his first race of the season to lead the Utah ski team on the first day of the Colorado Invitational as the Utes stand second in the team standings after the first day.
Utah is 12 points behind the host Buffs with 153 points to CU's 165. Montana State is third with 146.5 points.
Dvoracek has eight career victories, five which have come since transferring to Utah from Montana State and all in the giant slalom.
"First run was just really solid and clean skiing, I only had a little more than a tenth of a second to make up second run but there were also a handful of guys really close to me who would also be going for the win," Dvoracek said. "I knew I'd have to be pretty fast second run in order win. I had one of my best runs of the season and it ended up being really fast and was enough to get the win. It was sweet to get a win after having some struggles with my ankle the last month and a half!"
Joachim Lien finished second in the race for his second podium finish of the season.
Fredrik Maurstad was Utah's third scorer with a ninth-place run, his first top 10 finish in RMISA races.
Tomas Birkner placed 17
th for the Utes, moving up after skiing the fourth-fastest second run.
Gustav Vøllo did not finish his first run.
For the women,
Sona Moravcikova earned her best finish of the season, placing fourth and continuing her streak of finishing in the top 10 in every race.
Katie Parker placed eighth for her career-best finish. Unfortunately the first run was rough for the Utes with
Eirin Engeset,
Katie Vesterstein and
Roni Remme as three of 11 total skiers not finishing.

"I had a pretty good first run and I wanted to ski the same way in the second run, especially after seeing the guys ski so well, but I made a mistake at the bottom of the second run which cost me some time," Moravcikova said. "But I'm still really happy with my skiing and hopefully I can make on the podium next time."
"The guys are continuing to ski well," head alpine coach
JJ Johnson said. "The snow is super grippy – they had some fresh snow overnight and the low line had some soft spots and Addison skis this snow so well. He was so clean two runs in a row. His second run was just arc-to-arc skiing with zero mistakes, it was great. Joachim is in a mindset where he skis like he trains, which is a beautiful thing as an athlete. There is no difference in him in races or training and he is still skiing fast and building to get faster. Freddie has been fully locked in with the training we have been doing this fall, and he is skiing with discipline and confidence. His skiing has more shape, he's skiing around the line but allowing his skiing to be cleaner and is starting to see the benefits. Tomas is also locked in, he was a little anxious on his first run which got him into trouble and he had a fast second run. Gustav has been skiing great and is one of our top-end speed guys, he may have been a little tired, this competition stretch has been tough. For the women, Sona was so close today. She's a competitor and is just skiing free, which shows where she's at coming off of six weeks off.
Katie Parker has been better every race this year. She struggled to finish last year and you can see her confidence building every day. This was a rare mistake for Eirin, and Katie V and Roni both went out at the same spot, which was a tough spot. They were disappointed for the team today and hopefully that's out of our system."
