SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah ski team heads to Bozeman, Mont., this week looking to win back-to-back NCAA Championships for the first time since 1996-97.
Action begins on Wednesday, March 11 with the alpine giant slalom races at Bridger Bowl. Women's first run goes off at 9:00 a.m. with the men's first run at 10:15 a.m. Second runs are scheduled to being at 12:45 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. The Nordic 5-km and 10-km freestyle races at Crosscut Mountain Sports Center are on Thursday, returning to alpine on Friday with the slalom races. The championships conclude on Saturday, March 14, with the 15-km and 20-km classic races.

Utah is one of three teams that has qualified a full team of 12 skiers (three per gender per discipline), joining Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association members Colorado and Denver.
Utah has had a strong regular season, winning three of the four meets held for the RMISA regular-season championship. Utah has scored over 700 points in the three meets it won, including setting an RMISA record under the current scoring rubric (implemented in 2014) with 745 points in the Colorado Invitational while the Utes 743 points scored at the Utah Invite ranks second in league history.
The Utes have won two of the last three NCAA championships (2017, 2019) and their 12 total NCAA titles ranks third all-time behind Denver (24) and Colorado (19). Utah also has an AIAW championship (1978) for 13 total national titles. Utah's 76 individual national championships ranks third all-time.
Women's Nordic
- Senior
Guro Jordheim is a six-time All-American for the Utes. She has 17 career race wins and 28 career podium finishes.
- Jordheim led the RMISA with five victories and eight podium finishes this year, finishing outside the top five just once during the season. She was the RMISA women's Nordic MVP for the second time in her career (2018).
- Junior
Mariah Bredal is skiing at her second NCAA Championships, previously earning All-America honors in 2018 in classic.
- Bredal finished on the podium three times this season with five top-five finishes and was one of two skiers in the league to finish every race in the top 10. She earned first-team All-RMISA honors.
- Senior
Leah Lange also makes her second NCAA appearance. She earned her first career victory earlier this season and ranked third in the league with four podium finishes, collecting first-team all-league honors.
- Lange has 20 career top-10 finishes for the Utes.
Men's Nordic
- In four collegiate races this season, freshman
Samuel Hendry has two wins and a podium finish. He is a member of the Canadian National Senior Development Team and recently competed at the U23 FIS Cross Country World Championships, finishing 18
th in the 15-km classic.
- Junior
Maximilian Bie earned All-America honors in both classic and freestyle last season. He won his first career race earlier this year and his three podium finishes tied for third in the league. Bie had five total top-five finishes and earned first-team All-RMISA honors.
- Bie has one career win and five career podium finishes.
- Junior
Ola Jordheim makes his second NCAA appearance, he earned All-America honors in classic last season. He finished the regular season strong with a win in the 20-km classic at the RMISA Championships and third-place finish in the 10-km freestyle. Jordheim finished outside the top 10 just once during the season.
- Jordheim has four career podium finishes, nine career top-five finishes and 19 career top-10 finishes.
Women's Alpine
- Senior
Eirin Engeset earned All-America honors in the giant slalom last season. She has four podium finishes this year and earned second-team All-RMISA honors.
- Engeset has 10 career podium finishes and is a two-time All-RMISA skier.
- Junior
Sona Moravcikova is in her first season at Utah after transferring from New Mexico, competing at NCAA's for the Lobos last season. This season she has two top-five finishes.
- Moravcikova has one career victory, six career top-five finishes and 15 career top-10 finishes.
- Sophomore
Katie Parker was a second-team All-RMISA skier this season, earning her first career podium earlier this year with three top five and seven top-10 finishes.
- Parker has made significant improvement from her first to second year at Utah, she finished in the top 10 just once last season.
Men's Alpine
- Junior
Joachim Lien was the 2020 RMISA men's alpine MVP after leading the league with six wins (four in the slalom) and seven podium finishes.
- Lien makes his second NCAA appearance. He has six career wins, 11 career podiums and 15 career top-five finishes.
- Senior
Addison Dvoracek is in his second year at Utah after skiing his first two seasons at Montana State (2017-18). He was an All-American in the giant slalom in 2017. All of his eight career wins have come in the GS.
- Dvoracek had one win and tied for third in the league with four podium finishes this season.
- Freshman
Gustav Vøllo finished the season strong with finishes of second and sixth in GS and fourth in slalom while competing on the NCAA Championship hill. He has seven top-10 finishes this season.
Staff
- Three of Utah's four coaches are in their second season at Utah.
- Director of Skiing
Fredrik Landstedt has coached college skiing for 27 years and has won NCAA Championships at three different schools (Utah 2019, New Mexico 2004, Colorado 1995).
- Head Nordic coach
Miles Havlick was a two-time NCAA Champion skier and seven-time All-American during a four-year career at Utah (2010-13) and skied professionally with the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation Gold Team. He helped
Julia Richter win the women's 5-km freestyle title last season.
- Head alpine coach
JJ Johnson was the 2019 RMISA Alpine Coach of the Year. He previously coached with the U.S. Ski Team from 2014-19 following a professional career that saw him spend three seasons competing on the World Cup circuit (2004-07).
- First-year alpine assistant coach
Mary Joyce previously worked at Rowmark Ski Academy. She skied at St. Michael's College from 2013-16.
