Ute duo heads to camp in Herriman
SANDY, Utah – Former Utah Soccer standouts Holly Daugirda and Carly Nelson are part of the Utah Royals FC preseason roster. The club is entering its third season in the National Women's Soccer League.
Nelson was a United Soccer Coaches All-Pacific Region selection this year after leading the Pac-12 with 10 shutouts (13th nationally), 101 saves (24th nationally), and 1895:43 minutes played (eighth nationally). She also ranked second in the conference with an .808 save percentage and earned All-Pac-12 honors.
The Lindon native became the first Ute in almost two decades to top 100 stops in a single season. She amassed 23 shutouts for her career, ranking third in Utah history, and set the single-season record for clean sheets kept by a Utah goalkeeper.
Daugirda, a Salt Lake City native and veteran of Skyline High School, played every game during her Utah career, starting every contest as a junior and a senior. This past season, she finished second on the team in goals, assists and points pulling the Utes back into the NCAA Tournament. She also excelled in the classroom as a three-time Pac-12 All-Academic honoree.
URFC holds its preseason at Zions Bank Real Academy in Herriman. The team will train for three weeks before moving back to its home training facility at America First Field in Sandy on Mar. 21
At the end of the month, Utah Royals FC will take a preseason trip to Orange County, California, where the team will train for four days before facing the University of Southern California on March 29 at Orange County Great Park in Irvine, California.
After returning from California, URFC will face University of Utah on April 4 at noon from America First Field.
