SALT LAKE CITY – After a fall semester where Utah volleyball finished ranked No. 9 in the country after a Sweet 16 run, the Utes followed that up by earning public recognition from the NCAA for their Academic Progress Rate (APR) and set a team GPA record this spring.
"Academics are a high priority in the Utah volleyball program," head coach
Beth Launiere said. "We have disciplined players that work hard and take their academics seriously. I couldn't be more proud of our players for excelling through such adversity this spring."
The team earned a perfect single-year APR score for the seventh consecutive year and perfect multi-year score for a fourth straight season. The recognition from the NCAA came for posting a multi-year APR in the top 10 percent nationally of all volleyball teams.
APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation of all student-athletes on scholarship, and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
Volleyball also set a team record with a 3.666 GPA for the spring semester. They had 17 student-athletes on the honor roll (3.0 or above) and nine student-athletes make the Deans List (3.5 or above). Their previous record for a semester was a 3.637 back in the spring of 2012.
