From Tipton, Iowa, Sommer Daniel is a setter that has had a decorated prep career playing for Adrenaline Volleyball Academy.

What do you remember about Utah recruiting you?
Utah was one of my first visits and just fell in love with really everything. It was really early so I decided to take a few other visits to see how I felt, but all of the other visits after that felt nothing like Utah. It became clear that Utah was the place for me. I kind of knew it the minute I visited Utah, but wanted to be absolutely sure and see what else was out there. One thing that really stood out was a place that had that family feeling, and had that competitive side and a team that really wants to win. Utah is just that.
I’ve been on a lot of volleyball teams and they have been my family pretty much. My best friends have been the ones I’ve spent so much time with and I think that helps the team on the court too. That type of atmosphere helps grow a team and builds a lot of trust with everybody. That was really important for me.

What do you want to add to the team this fall?
I want to add to the team on and off the court that extra person that helps bring everyone together. On the court, I came in as a setter and have been training as a libero recently. I’ve also been doing some setting on my own time, but I’m really not sure what position I’ll be playing yet. Wherever I end up, I do know I’ll be the best at that position and work really hard. I had been working really hard and I hope that people will see that. Whatever the team’s goals are is what I’m there for and I’ll push myself to help out any way I can.
Sommer is the only Iowa player to record 1,000-plus kills, digs and assists. She was named first-team all-state after her junior and senior seasons and second-team all-state after her sophomore season. After her junior season, Daniel was named 3A Player of the Year. On her club team, she was named to the USA National All-Tournament Team after the 2017 and 2018 tournament where the team finished fifth and second. Playing all over the court, Daniel did a little bit of everything finishing her senior year with 382 kills, 452 assists, 277 digs, 27 blocks and 46 aces.
