SAN FRANCISCO – After an undefeated week to end the regular season, senior outside hitter
Dani Drews and sophomore libero
Vanessa Ramirez earned Pac-12 weekly awards following standout performances. Drews was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week, while Ramirez was named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week.
The weekly award marks Drews' third honor of the season and sixth of her career. Ramirez earned her first Pac-12 weekly award of her young Ute career.
Drews is coming off a monstrous senior week where she averaged 7.00 kills per set in her final two matches at the Jon M. Huntsman Center. The fifth year Ute posted 21 kills in the sweep over No. 21 Washington State, which was just one kill shy of tying her own program record (22) she had set for a three-set match. Drews also collected 15 digs to boast a team-best 11 double-doubles this season.
On her senior day, Drews posted 28 kills on .377 hitting to lead the Utes in a four-set win over Colorado. She also matched a season-high four service aces against the Buffaloes and added seven digs.
Ramirez earns the defensive honor after averaging 5.00 digs per set in the final week of the regular season for the Utes. The Pasadena, Calif. native opened the week's play by posting match-high 21 digs in just three sets of play against Washington State to match a career-high mark, which she had previously set in a five-set match. She closed out the regular season with 14 digs against Colorado to mark her 22nd match of double-digit digs this season. The 21-dig effort is the third 20-plus dig match this season, which leads the team.
Drews and Ramirez will begin postseason play with the rest of the Utah volleyball squad this Friday, Dec. 3 against Utah Valley in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Utah and Utah Valley will square off at 4 p.m. MT at Smith Fieldhouse in Provo, Utah.
