SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah men's basketball team begins another stretch on the road, this time the start of a four-game road swing beginning with a 4 p.m. (MT) match-up against California this Thursday, Feb. 11, on Pac-12 Networks.
Ted Robinson will have the call while former Golden Bears head coach Mike Montgomery serves as the analyst in the second meeting between Utah and Cal this season. The Utes look to split the season series while the Golden Bears look to pull off the season sweep for the first time since 2012-13.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN BEARS
California will welcome in the Mountain schools this week on a six-game skid after being swept by rival Stanford this past week. The Golden Bears have not won a game since its comeback win against the Utes on Jan. 16 in SLC.
As a team, Cal is averaging 4.1 points better at home (5-5) than it is on the road (1-9). When at home, the Golden Bears have seen four players average in double figures compared to just Matt Bradley on the road.
Bradley, who missed three weeks in January due to injury, is back leading the Golden Bears in scoring with an 18.4 points average to go with 4.4 rebounds per game and a .452 shooting clip. The junior has been a force for Cal since his return, averaging 19.4 points with three-straight games of 20-plus points.
Andre Kelly is the other Golden Bear averaging in double-figures, checking in at 10.0 points per game with a team-high 6.2 rebounding average. Meanwhile, Ryan Betley and Grant Anticevich are just shy of averaging in double-figures. Betley is averaging 9.6 points and 3.7 boards while Anticevich is averaging 9.2 points and 4.4 rebounds for Cal. Makale Foreman has been a steady player for the Golden Bears, checking in at 8.5 points per game. Joel Brown has been solid commanding the Cal offense, dishing out 3.3 assists per game with a 1.6 assist to turnover ratio.
LAST TIME OUT
Utah put together one of its best games of the season last week when it faced off against Arizona at home that ended in favor of the Utes 73-58. The 15-point victory margin was the largest against the Wildcats since the 76-51 win against fourth-seeded Arizona on March 21, 1998, in the Elite Eight.
After a closely-contested first half, the Utes held Arizona to just 28.6-percent shooting in the second half while shooting a .577 clip themselves – including 5-of-6 from 3-point land. Utah was able to hold Arizona's best player, James Akinjo, to just 10 points – including a scoreless first half.
Utah once again had a balanced attack on offense with five different players in double-figures led by
Timmy Allen with 18 points and nine rebounds. Meanwhile,
Pelle Larsson filled up the stat sheet with 14 points, three rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Alfonso Plummer was his usual steady self, scoring 12 points off the bench while
Branden Carlson and
Riley Batting each added 10 points apiece in the win.

Utah continues the road swing in the Bay Area as it faces Stanford on Saturday, Feb. 13, for an 8 p.m. (MT) tip on Pac-12 Networks. The Cardinal made their return to Maples Pavilion after spending the first three-plus months of the season in Santa Cruz at the Golden State Warriors GLeague Facility.

Utah remains on the road the following week as it travels to the Oregon school, beginning with Oregon State on Thursday, Feb. 18, followed by Oregon on Saturday, Feb. 20, before returning home for a three-game homestand.
