SALT LAKE CITY – Utah volleyball stayed perfect last weekend by sweeping Arizona State and moved to 6-0 on the season. A large part of that was
Dani Drews and she was rewarded by being named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced.
It's the second time Drews has earned the award this season.
The All-American was close to unstoppable last weekend, having 51 kills while hitting .358. In the eight sets, she averaged a whopping 6.38 kills per set.
On Friday night, Drews totaled 31 kills with six of those coming in the fifth set to assure Utah remained undefeated on the season. She also had 15 digs to give her a double-double. It was her fourth 30-kill match of her career.
The Utes only needed three sets to secure the win on Sunday, but Drews continued her domination finishing the match with 20 kills hitting .366.
Through six matches, Drews is averaging 5.88 kills per set and is hitting .321. She has hit over .300 in five of the six matches this season.
With the 6-0 start, Utah achieved its highest ranking ever as the AVCA released its latest rankings on Monday, February 8 putting Utah at no. 7.
After spending a couple weeks on the road, now the Utes get to play at home for two weeks. They will host USC for a pair of matches this weekend in the Huntsman Center beginning on Friday, February 12 at 3 p.m. on the Pac-12 Network.
