SAN FRANCISCO – After two phenomenal performances to lead Utah to an undefeated week,
Dani Drews has been named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week, announced Monday afternoon by the conference office. The selection marks the first weekly award of the season for Drews and the fourth offensive player of the week award of her career.
Drews began the week with an incredible 18 kills (6.0 kills per set) with zero errors in the sweep over Weber State last Thursday. The Sandy, Utah native was unstoppable in the match and hit .486 in the match on 37 swings. She also posted a season-high 20 digs in just three sets of play.
She continued her offensive streak at No. 3 Nebraska this past Saturday, recording a match-high 27 kills (5.40 kills per set) to lead Utah in the historic upset after trailing 0-2 to begin the match. The 27 kills was a season high for the three-time All-American and marked her 54th-straight match of tallying double-digit kills for Utah. Against the Huskers, Drews also had 16 digs in the five-set match for her second straight double-double.
Drews is leading the Pac-12 this season with 5.00 kills per set and ranks sixth in the nation through three weeks of play.
Drews and the Utah volleyball team take on Boise State this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. MT at Bronco Gym in Boise, Idaho. Utah will then look to a rivalry match at No. 15 BYU this Thursday, Sept. 16. The match is at 7 p.m. MT at Smith Fieldhouse.
