THE MATCH UP
Wednesday's contest between the Utes and Horned Frogs will be the 22nd meeting all-time between the two programs and third time
Craig Smith has gone up against TCU head coach Jamie Dixon. This will just be the fourth time Utah and TCU have squared off on a neutral court. The first two came in Las Vegas in the as part of the WAC Tournament (March 8, 1997) and Mountain West Tournament (March 12, 2009) while the third match-up occurred last season in Ft. Worth, Texas, at Dickies Arena (Dec. 8, 2021).
The Utes look to get back into the win column against TCU after dropping last year's game 76-62. Mike Miles had one of his best games in that contest for the Horned Frogs, scoring 28 points with eight rebounds and four assists on 9-of-17 shooting from the floor and 7-of-8 from the line.
Branden Carlson led the charge for the Utes with 16 points, nine rebounds and six blocks while
Both Gach had 16 points of his own with five boards.
LAST TIME OUT
The Runnin' Utes had a tough time finding the bottom of the basket in its rivalry game against BYU last Saturday, knocking down just 20-percent of its 3-pointers (4-for-20) and finished with a .407 clip overall from the field. Utah had good balance in scoring with five players in double-figures but it wasn't enough in its rally late in the second half before falling 75-66.
Branden Carlson led the Utes with 18 points, six rebounds and a block to inch closer to the fourth spot on the all-time blocks list.
Rollie Worster and
Lazar Stefanovic each chipped in with a dozen points each while
Gabe Madsen and
Marco Anthony had 11 points apiece.
UP NEXT
With the non-conference schedule all wrapped up, the Runnin' Utes turn their attention towards Pac-12 play. Utah starts the full slate on the road once again, this time in the Bay Area with California (Dec. 29) before playing Stanford on New Years Eve. The Utes took care of business last season, sweeping their Bay Area trip and give head coach
Craig Smith his first series trip at the helm in Pac-12 play.
