ÂMATCH WEEK
Utah Volleyball travels to the Evergreen State this weekend to take on the fourth-ranked Washington State Cougars and the Washington Huskies. The Utes clash with the Cougars on Friday, Oct. 13, at 7:00 p.m. MT in Pullman, Wash. at Bohler Gym. The match will be broadcasted on the Washington State live stream. The Utes close out a quick road trip with a visit to Seattle, Wash. in the Alaska Airlines Arena for a battle with the Huskies at 1 p.m. MT on Pac-12 Washington.
ÂQUICK HITS
• Kamry Bailey collected 17 kills last weekend vs. Oregon State, setting her new career high.
• Allie Olsen is ranked seventh in the Pac-12 with a .363 hitting percentage.
• Vanessa Ramirez is ranked third in the Pac-12 with 4.04 digs per set.
• The Utes totaled a season-high 16.5 blocks against the Beavers last Friday.

ÂSCOUTING THE #4 COUGS
Washington State is off to their program's best start through 17 matches since the 1997 season, starting the season 15-2. The No. 4 Cougars have defeated three top-10 teams with each victory coming on the road. Washington State fell at home against No. 3 Stanford last Sunday in four sets, recording their second loss of the season. The Cougars are second in the Pac-12 and seventh in the country in hitting percentage at a clip of 0.299. The Cougars offense produces 13.75 kills per set, ranking third in the Pac-12 and 25th in the nation. Magda Jehlarova leads the conference in hitting percentage at 0.430 and is ranked 11th nationally. The fifth-year middle blocker has recorded four consecutive games of double-digit kills.
ÂSCOUTING THE HUSKIES
Washington enters the match winning four of their last five home matches with the only loss coming at the hands of No. 3 Stanford last weekend. Washington hosted the Husky Invitational in the pre-season, winning all three matches, and entered Pac-12 play 9-2. The last five Husky results have been decided in four sets, winning two of their last five matches. Washington leads the Pac-12 in total team aces, accumulating 131 over 17 matches. The Huskies are coming off a win against California in Seattle last Sunday, defeating the Golden Bears 3-1.Â
ÂBLOCK PARTY
Utah collected 16.5 blocks last Friday vs. Oregon State, their highest of the season. Utah's stellar net play of 6.5 blocks forced OSU to hit .000 in the third set of the match. Allie Olsen and Emrie Satuala led the way for the Utes as both contributed eight blocks to Utah's dominant performance at the net Olsen set a new career-high with this clip. Amelia Van Der Werff, Kamry Bailey, and Grace Hammond all added their own collection of four blocks to join the party. Eight different Utes recorded at least one block. This is the highest team block total since the Utes racked up 17.0 blocks vs. Oregon State in 2022.Â
ÂSTRENGTH IN NUMBERS
The Utes have had countless student-athletes contribute to the team this season. Utah has had seven players reach double-digit digs in at least one match this season, and seven Utes have recorded double-digit kills at one point in 2023. Four Utes have also recorded a double-double this year, which is all of the first of their careers. Five different Utes have led the team in kills in at least one match. At the net, Utah has had six athletes lead the team in blocks in at least one match.
ÂBACKING BAILEY
Kamry Bailey led the way for the Utes last weekend, reaching her career-high in kills with 17 against Oregon State. The junior showed out defensively, tying her career-high of four blocks and tallied seven digs. Bailey ended the weekend with another strong performance, adding nine kills and seven digs against No. 5 Oregon. Bailey is now second on the team with digs behind Vanessa Ramirez with 112 and third on the team in kills, totaling 134.
ÂRAMIREZ RUNNING THE BACK ROW
Starting libero Vanessa Ramirez is leading the Utah defense once again as she has done since day one in Salt Lake City. She is third in the Pac-12 with 4.04 digs per set and has recorded double-digit digs in all but one match this season. The California native recorded a season-high 24 digs in just four sets against Weber State for her second match of 20-plus digs this season. Ramirez tallied 22 digs against NC State earlier this year and has 11 matches of 20 or more digs in her career. Last year, Ramirez led the team in digs 27 of the 31 matches, while she finished third in the Pac-12 with 4.04 digs per set. She has led the team or tied for the lead in digs in all but one match this season so far. Behind the line, Ramirez recorded a pair of service aces against Oregon, tying her season high.
ÂMAKING A CASE IN THE MIDDLE
Utah has received contributions from its middle blockers on a nightly basis. Emrie Satuala and Allie Olsen lead the team with 52 and 49 blocks, respectively. Satuala holds a team-best 1.13 blocks per set and has posted double-digit kills in the last four of five matches. Olsen has been the most consistent in the middle for the Utes as she has posted eight matches of .350 hitting or above, which includes five at a .500 clip or better. Former middle blocker Amelia Van Der Werff has made the move to the right side and provided a spark against Weber State and California, totaling 17 kills with just three errors over the two matches, along with nine blocks. Against the Bruins in Los Angeles, Van Der Werff led the team with 13 kills (no errors) on .650 hitting and added eight kills at USC off the bench. Olsen, Van Der Werff, and Satuala are the top three Utes in hitting percentage this season.Â
ÂFEED THE FRESHMAN
Outside hitter, Kamryn Gibadlo has shined so far in her first season with the Utes. The Cave Creek, Ariz. native leads the team with eight matches of 10 or more kills during her true freshman season. She posted eight kills off the bench at UCLA on .412 hitting, while recording 11 kills at Colorado in her first conference match. Gibadlo dominated the floor vs. UC Santa Barbara during the Utah Classic, capturing 17 kills. The freshman added her offensive performance with defensive excellence, tallying eight digs in the victory. Gibadlo saw near perfection against San Francisco earlier this season as she accumulated 11 kills on 16 total attacks with zero errors. This past weekend, she totaled 17 kills over the span of both games.
ÂHITTING THEIR STRIDES
Utah's pin hitters have each had their big moments in the season and stepped up at different times. Lauren Jardine leads the team with 3.02 kills per set and posted 14 kills at Colorado and 17 kills against California to start the conference schedule. Jardine has tallied six matches of 10 or more kills. Adding to the pin hitters, Kamry Bailey has been strong in the outside hitter position with six matches of 10-plus kills, along with having tremendous defensive efforts in the back row. Lastly, Rianne Vos stepped up with 10 kills against BYU, followed by 13 kills vs. Weber State. She also recorded double-digit digs in both matches for double-doubles.  Â
ÂCAN'T SEE IT, CAN'T BEAT IT
Utah has recorded 102 aces this season which ranks fourth in the Pac-12. The Utes have scored via an ace five or more times in the last six of seven matches including 10 times at UCLA. Sophomore setter Viktoria Wahlgren leads the team in aces as she's served at least one ace in the last seven matches. Finding success in Los Angeles, Wahlgren totaled six aces at UCLA, her career high. The trio of Emily Smith, Rianne Vos, and Allie Olsen all have 13 aces on the season. The Utes racked up 16 aces this past weekend against Oregon State and Oregon.

AUTOMATIC ALLIE
Starting middle blocker Allie Olsen is coming off a season where she recorded a .363 hitting percentage, which ranked as the sixth-best percentage in a single season in program history. Olsen has hit above .500 in five matches so far, while she has hit above .400 in half of the matches so far this season. At the Utah Classic, she earned All-Tournament Team honors after hitting at a blazing .419 clip through three matches. Olsen recorded a season-high .692 hitting percentage against Tennessee State from nine kills and no errors while hitting .538 against San Francisco. The senior from Great Falls, Mont., ranks seventh in the Pac-12 with a .363 hitting percentage.

Utah returns to the Jon M. Huntsman Center for a four-game home stand beginning with Arizona State, next Friday, Oct. 22, and Arizona on Sunday, Oct. 24. First serve with the Sun Devils is at 6 p.m. MT for Flashback Friday on Pac-12 Network. The Ute Proud match with the Wildcats begins at 12 p.m. MT on Pac-12 Mountain to conclude the weekend. To close out play in October, the Utes welcome UCLA and USC to Salt Lake City on Oct. 27 and Oct. 29.
