SALT LAKE CITY – Oregon struck first with two runs in the first inning and stretched its lead throughout the middle innings and again late, as the Utah baseball team fell to the Ducks by an 9-1 score on Friday afternoon at Smith's Ballpark. The result sets up a rubber game between Utah and Oregon on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Cleanup hitter
Jayden Kiernan doubled in the seventh inning to score
TJ Clarkson and extend Kiernan's hitting streak to 15 straight games, while also extending his on-base streak to 35 consecutive contests
Kai Roberts and
Davis Cop each had two hits for Utah while Clarkson walked three times on the day.
After the two-spot to open the game, Oregon added a pair of runs again in the third and a single tally during the fifth inning.
Utah looked primed to get on the board in the home half of the fifth, loading the bases with one out after a
Bruer Webster single and free passes to Roberts and Clarkson. But the Ducks answered by inducing a pop up and got out of the inning on a strikeout.
Oregon added two more in the seventh, before Kiernan hit a double that rolled to the wall in left center, scoring Clarkson all the way from first base.
Starting pitcher
Merit Jones received the loss for Utah in a five-inning outing.
Jaden Harris and
Bransen Kuehl contributed work out of the bullpen, with Harris striking out three batters during his three innings on the bump.
