- JJ Johnson, head alpine coach with the four-time defending NCAA champion Utah Ski Team, will be in attendance Tuesday to throw out the first pitch. The Utah Spirit Team and Swoop will also be in attendance.
- Be sure to arrive early again on Wednesday for the New Mexico State game—the first 100 fans through the gates can claim a voucher for a $1 hot dog.
The First Pitch: Things to Know
Two midweek matchups await the Utah baseball team as the Utes welcome BYU to Smith's Ballpark on Tuesday and New Mexico State on Wednesday. It begins a stretch of five games this week inside the home confines, as well as eight of the Utes' final nine regular season games being played in Salt Lake City.
- The week begins with the rubber game of the three-game season series with BYU. Then on Wednesday, the Utes meet New Mexico State for the first time since taking two of three from the Aggies back in 2017.
- Tuesday's matchup will air on Pac-12 Network with Thad Anderson and former longtime Utah head coach Bill Kinneberg on the call. The Wednesday night game will be available on Utah's Live Stream, and both midweek contests will be on the radio airwaves of ESPN 700 AM and 92.1 FM with Bill Riley calling the action.
- Utah is back home coming off a three-game series out in Corvallis with No. 15 Oregon State. The Utes picked up their fifth straight win with a 13-9 triumph in the series opener, but the club was edged by a 6-5 score in the middle game and fell 11-4 in the rubber match at Goss Stadium.
- Last Friday's series opener with the Beavers had several swings in momentum, before Utah used a six-run fourth inning to pull both momentum and the lead into its dugout for the rest of the night. Kai Roberts clubbed a three-run home run to spark the inning, and in the sixth inning Davis Cop went yard for what was coincidentally Cop's 100th hit as a Ute.
- Micah Ashman picked up his Pac-12-leading ninth save in the Friday game, matching the most by a Utah pitcher since 2016.
- The Utes' April 18 meeting with BYU was a wild one that saw both teams combine for 43 runs and 34 hits—with Utah defeating the Cougars by a 29-14 score at Miller Park. The 29 runs were a Pac-12 era program record and three from tying the Utes' all-time top mark. Both the Utah run total and combined scoring of the teams reset Miller Park facility records (the ballpark opened in 2001).
- TJ Clarkson scored six runs and walked five times down in Provo, both tying single-game records at Utah. Jayden Kiernan was 4-for-6 with his first career grand slam, finishing with seven RBI. Davis Cop also drove in seven runs, five of which came via his two homers. All told, the Utes had nine extra base hits (five HR, three doubles and a triple) and drew 13 walks on the night.
- Utah picked up a pair of 5-1 victories over New Mexico State during a three-game series in March 2017. The Utes clubbed four home runs in the opener, then struck early in the middle game and never looked back on the way to another victory.
- Following the midweeks with the Cougars and Aggies, Utah will prepare for a non-conference weekend vs. Cal Poly. First pitch in the weekend set will be at 6 p.m. MT on Friday.
