SALT LAKE CITY – University of Utah women's soccer head coach
Hideki Nakada officially announced the 2023 schedule for his program on Tuesday and the Utes are set to play a 20-game slate that will include nine matches within the friendly confines of Ute Field. Fans will also be able to take in seven of Utah's matches on the Pac-12 Networks.
"We are delighted to announce our fall schedule," said Nakada. "I believe we have one of the toughest schedules in the country and I am excited for our Utes to be challenged.
"We've grown tremendously since last fall and had a very successful spring season and I am excited to see how that will translate into this fall. We are going to have quality teams coming to play us here in Salt Lake City and I am thrilled for our fans to come watch us at home."
The Utes will begin their 2023 campaign with a pair of matchups on the east coast, opening the year on August 17 with a 5 p.m. MT meeting with NC State, followed by an August 20 date with the College of Charleston Cougars. Both of these contests will represent Utah's first-ever match against these two programs.
On August 24, the Utes will play on the road for the third straight time when they visit Logan, Utah to take on the Utah State Aggies. Nakada's charges will be looking for a repeat of their 2022 clash with USU, which ended in a 1-0 Utah triumph.
On August 27, the gates to Ute Field will swing open for the first time when the Utes welcome the Clemson Tigers to town for Utah's 2023 home opener. The Utes will be attempting to win their 11th consecutive home opener, a streak that dates back to 2013, as well as collect their first-ever victory over the Tigers. This match will also be broadcast live on the Pac-12 Networks.
The Utes close out August with one more home showdown, as they'll defend their home turf against the Utah Valley Wolverines on the 30th, then open September by traveling to Cal State Fullerton. Utah's first home match in the season's second month will pit them against BYU on September 9, with kick-off scheduled for 7 p.m. That affair will give Nakada's bunch a chance to avenge a 2-1 defeat in Provo in 2022 and collect their first win over the Cougars since 2014.
The Weber State Wildcats will play host to the Utes on the 14th, before Utah travels for Fort Collins, Colorado for a Sept. 17 clash with Colorado State that will close out the team's non-conference schedule.
Utah's Pac-12 slate will begin at home on Sept. 22, when they'll square off with the USC Trojans at 7 p.m. The Utes will have the chance to make it back-to-back seasons in which they started the conference schedule with a win at home, as they defeated Arizona at Ute Field in their first Pac-12 match of 2022.
After hitting the road to face Oregon State on Sept. 28 and Oregon on Oct. 1, the Utes will play consecutive matches at home for the first time in 2023 and they'll start by hosting the California Golden Bears on Oct. 5 and entertaining the Stanford Cardinal three days later. Utah will finish its regular-season road schedule by taking on UCLA on Oct. 13, Washington on Oct. 19 and Washington State on the 22nd.
Fans will be treated to three straight matches at home to close out Utah's 2023 regular season and that stretch begins on Oct. 26, when the Arizona State Sun Devils will visit Ute Field, followed by an Oct. 29 bout against Arizona. The Utes will close out the regular year on Nov. 3 when they lock horns with the Colorado Buffaloes.
