KANSAS CITY –
Ben Carlson,
Eli Ballstaedt,
Jaxon Brenchley,
Mike Saunders Jr. and
Rollie Worster of the Utah men's basketball team were named to the 2023 NABC Honors Court on Thursday while the Runnin' Utes as a team was recognized with the NABC Team Excellence Award for their academic success in 2022-23.
The five honorees for Utah are second-most in program history only to the 2013-14 squad that had seven recognized by the NABC. In addition, it is the fourth-consecutive year the Runnin' Utes have been honored with the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award and the sixth time overall (2013, 2018, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023) since the award started in 2012-13.
To be eligible for the NABC Honors Court, players must…
- Academically be a junior, senior or graduate student during the 2022-23 academic year
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the academic year
- Must have been a member of the varsity roster in 2022-23
- Players from four-year colleges with at least one active NABC member on staff are eligible
To be eligible for the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award, a program must a program must achieve a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better for the previous season.
