DEIVON SMITH, THE FIFTH OF HIS NAME
Deivon Smith made quick work of his first-career start as a Runnin' Ute against Stanford and recorded his first-career triple-double with 16 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists. The 6-1 guard became just the fifth Ute do achieve the feat and the first player in the Pac-12 to do so this season. In total, Smith's triple-double is just the 33rd time it's occurred in the Conference of Champions since 1985. Of the 33 times it's happened in the Pac-12, Smith's triple-double against Stanford was the 16th time a player has done it in a conference game. Through games on Jan. 14, Smith's triple-double was just the 21st time a Division I player had achieved that stat line and just the ninth time it's been done against a Power Conference opponent this season.
Â
TOP WINS
Through games on Jan. 14, Utah is 5-5 in quad 1 and quad 2 games – tying it with Arizona State and Marquette for the 25th most Q1 and Q2 wins combined. The only other Pac-12 team with more wins or Q1 and Q2 games combined is Arizona (6-4).

LAST TIME OUT
The Utah men's basketball team had opportunities down the stretch at Stanford this past Sunday but couldn't capitalize at the free-throw line and make enough stops on the defense end in its 79-73 loss to the Cardinal. Meanwhile, Stanford capitalized on Utah's 20 fouls and knocked down 19-of-26 from the charity stripe while the Utes were just 4-of-12 at the line.
Deivon Smith's first-career triple-double of 16 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists was the lone bright spot on Sunday.
Branden Carlson inched one block closer to the school record and currently sits at 212 career blocks after posting 16 points and 5 rebounds as well.
Gabe Madsen was the other source of offense for Utah with 14 points and 6 rebounds on 4-of-9 from 3-point range. Meanwhile,
Keba Keita and
Ben Carlson each had nine points apiece off the bench.
