SAN FRANCISCO – Utah men's basketball guard
Deivon Smith was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week after leading the Runnin' Utes to just their third sweep of the Oregon schools this past weekend in the Pac-12 Era while averaging 19.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 8.0 assists.
Â
This is the first weekly honor for smith and the third one this season for Utah – which marks just the third time the Utes have had three or more weekly award winners in a single-season (2015-16: 4 / 2019-20: 3). Additionally, this is the fourth time that the Utes have had multiple players earn player of the week honors.
Â
In just his second start as a Ute, Smith helped Utah cruise past Oregon State as the team's floor general posting 14 points on 4 rebounds with 8 assists on 6-for-11 shooting. He then followed up with a terrific ballgame against Oregon and was just shy of a triple-double scoring a career-high 24 points on 11 rebounds with 8 dimes to help the Utes record just its third victory over the Ducks since joining the league in 2011-12. Smith also shot .517 from the field and .444 from beyond the arch for Utah on the weekend.
Â
His half court heave at the end of the first-half against the Ducks also ended up at No. 9 on SportsCenter's #SCTop10 Plays that circulated Sunday night and Monday morning.
Â
Utah now hits the road this weekend with a quick turnaround on hand as it battles Washington State this Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 8 p.m. (MT) on Pac-12 Networks inside Beasley Coliseum.
